    #25926864 -

for those who don't know what NPK stands for, I'm talking about the 3 macro nutrients found in potting soil, thanks!

Most soils are very low in npk by total weight, are you planning on mixing your own? Or are you just wondering what the average ratio should be?

I would recommend using liquid nutrients instead of a "premix" soil that has nutrients inside it.

I would recommend making a complete living organic soil.

I say living organic soil > liquid/synthetic fertilizers.

But putting together one's own soil would be even better than buying a pre-mix/bagged soil...There are some pre-mixed soils out there that do the job nicely though. Last summer I went with "roots organics" soil (bagged soil) and just amended with compost teas and top dressed with various things throughout the grow (like kelp, alfalfa, feather meal, guano, fish meal, worm castings, etc etc etc...). I never had any issues with nute deficiencies or any issues with nutes being to high/hot and causing burning.

Everyone has their preference though, and there are pros & cons to each, and it also depends how and where one is going to be growing...Dank can be grown more ways than one...But I'm a fan of growing in soil that's "organic" and actually alive and teeming with organisms versus using a liquid solution of fertilizers.

With a proper soil, one doesn't need to do much as far as providing nutes to the plant...it's all in the soil already. I also feel things can get "out of balance" a whole lot easier when growing with bottled/liquid fertilizers.

What is it that you're trying to do?

Are you planning on creating/mixing up your own soil? Or are you trying to find an ideal "pre-mixed" soil?

ClackamasCoot/LumperDawgz soil mix is better than subcools, imo. There are companies from which you can source pre-mixed CC/LD recommended amendments and just add it to the base ingredients.

Shit ... Even just mixing compost, Coco/peat, and perlite with a little kelp and alfalfa will outperform most bottled/hydro/grow kit gimmicks.

Word, there are many mixes, subs has been good for me.  Have also liked simple Roots Organics with supplemental mycorrhizae, and xtra PK in flower, fool proof and perfect outdoors out of the bag.  Can be moist so sometimes I ad some perlite.  Eazy money.  Roots is good for noobs.

:yesnod:

Last year was my first time growing the plant. I used roots in fabric pots and was happy with it for sure. It held moisture nicely but was also pretty airy/fluffy, drained nicely and wasn't compact...I got a nice watering cycle going where I watered every other day, even during the peak of summer with lots of 95 to 100+ degree days and super low humidity I didn't have to water every day.

I used the roots-organics "original" soil. I used a little bit of "Dr. Earth" fertilizer 5-5-2 during veg, mixed in with the soil and also tea/top dressed...Then a bit before and during flower I used some Dr. Earth 3-9-4 in tea and top dress...also used some earth worm castings/molasses in tea and top dress throughout the grow....And that was about it.

It was my first time growing the plant and I was pretty happy with how it turned out...It was some of the most dank outdoor herb I've ever seen, and some of the best weed I've seen in general regardless of indoor or out lol. And I live on the west coast and have been smoking for years so I've seen quite a bit of dank weed.

I'll be re-cycling the same soil again this year, mixed up with some fresh roots soil and amendments....after the grow this year I plan on making my own soil mix.
