Query to the multiverse. Am 'I' alone? * 1
    #25918831 -

So I've not tripped a lot, but every single time I do I come in contact with an entity within me that terrifies me. That entity is a messiah complex 'ancient self' that emerges. It terrifies me because I know it's bat shit crazy when I feel overwhelmed by said sensation. I hate it because it's not like I don't agree with the well-meaning sentiment of the energy that permeates me, but it makes me paranoid of tripping because I'm afraid one of these time's I'm going to become convinced I really am the messiah and then it's off to the loony bin.

Let me explain a little bit further how this complex developed. My first trip was heavy, around ~800 micros heavy. To jump straight to the main event, at one point in my trip, my mind started to wonder and I suddenly realized I was no longer in my body. But more importantly I wasn't at the festival I had consumed LSD at. Instead I was at a gated entry way to a medieval castle guarded by entities of pure light. They had forms, and features, not too dissimilar from humans, but were very evidently not. Their clothing was similar to silk and seemed to move as if we were standing in a windstorm. But the winds came from the entities guarding the entrance. "Where am I?" I asked, I felt their smile, and their words echoed in my mind, "welcome home." As they both stepped aside, revealing an opaque crystal door that seemed to have a pale blue glow. As I made to move towards the door I seemed to suddenly be sucked into the Cathedral where I suddenly found myself standing in a throne room. There before me was an old man with a vaguely familiar face.

I couldn't put my finger on why I recognized him, I'd never seen him before, but I knew him some how. Almost as if inspired by the figure it dawned on me. I was looking at myself and just as suddenly, I was upon the throne. Almost as soon as I realized I had replaced myself, my mind was flooded with the answers to every question I'd ever asked until it became too much and I fell to the ground weeping into my hands. Repeating "How could I be so indifferent towards my creation?" Until my brother started shaking my shoulder saying "yo! hey man! Are you okay? Talk to me! What's going on?" And just like that I was back in the camp at the music festival, curled up in the fetal position in the front seat of my car.

I haven't been able to fight the feeling since that I'm supposed to "save creation" but how the hell do you even do that? lol I mean seriously, these thoughts are fucking bonkers, I'm a scientist by trade, as I've always been fascinated with the idea of understanding the universe. So I have a pretty strong grasp on the whole cycle of life, survival of the good enough, etc. I'm a very pragmatic individual, spiritually speaking. So this experience (and the one's I've had like it almost every single time I've tripped) keep taking me to that point. The only reason I continue to use LSD is because psychedelics are the only thing I've found to reliably give me long term relief from my depression.

Has anyone else struggled with a messiah/god complex creeping into their minds as a result of doing psychedelics? As in, the possibility literally PLAGUES you emotionally, but you rationalize it away as the delusion it is. I've always heard people say that psychedelics are supposed to cause ego death, but I can't imagine anything more egotistical than the suggestion that you are the messiah.. It's such a fucking weird scenario, right? Like I don't wanna be a messiah, I don't want to feel responsible for everyone's pain; hell as my depression suggests, most of the time I don't even want to be alive. But here I am, a walking contradiction. Someone who the universe (or at least my subconscious) is trying to convince to be a figure I couldn't even stomach the idea of being.

Like seriously, even if I was the messiah, no one would believe that in the 21st century. For starters, I'm a no-body. I grew up in despot poverty, I've been an economic failure for over a decade and was a burden upon my family. I've never brought an animal back to life, I can't walk on water, I can't seemingly do anything a normal person can't, other than develop a messiah complex without actually believing I'm the messiah. Anyways I hope I'm not alone in holding this paradoxical view as a result of psychedelics..  it's just not something I've heard of people typically report... usually people meet or are influenced by divine energy/knowledge, but I've not met someone who's become God, at least not without them obviously being off the deep end, completely convinced they're actually God. Maybe people who have have had this experience, but rejected it just don't like being open in person about such, so let's see how common this experience is on an anonymous message board. lol

You're not alone. or maybe you are. I had something a bit similar with my mescaline + LSD trip - here's the trip report of it:

https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/25887252#25887252

i don't know if this is the truth or not, but i feel like it is, or at least a partial understanding of it. in a sense, we're all little gods. every time you create - a new sculpture, a new invention, a new painting, a new story, or just recreate another persons recipe or sing another persons song - you're being a god of creation. every new thought, every new action you take spawns new choices, new universes.

if you're a scientist, you're making new discoveries, are you not? that's not a nothing. that's a huge thing. we wouldn't be talking on the internet today if not for people like you stretching the boundries of understanding, creating new understanding of the universe we live in, stretching the limits of what we can do. maybe one day we'll even figure out how to selectively bend or rewrite those limits!

So perhaps you're being told to step up and contribute your part to saving creation, by using whatever talents you have to create newness and make the world better. it doesn't matter how - whether you're making a new discovery that saves lives or improves them, whether you write a song that inspires people and fills them with hope, whether you make a new recipe that brings happiness to those who try it...whether you create an image that conveys helpful lessons to people, or a philosophy that improves quality of life. all of these and more are needed for saving creation.

you don't have to be slaying dragons to be a hero - you just need to live the life pursuing what YOU enjoy doing. stay true to your desires - if you aren't having fun, or doing things that help you have fun in the future...why are you doing it? if you're doing a job that pays shit and makes you feel like shit, and it hampers your ability to have fun, why do that job? if you have "friends" or "family" in your life that bring you down...why keep them around? if you're bogged by thoughts and worries about things you cannot control...why bother thinking them? worry about what you CAN tackle, and ignore the worries you can't deal with - they will happen regardless (or won't happen) so there's no point wasting time thinking about them when there's so much you can deal with.

there's a bit of the divine in all of us. we are all connected in a vast web of connections. your actions have an impact on others lives, no matter how small, just as theirs have an impact on yours. we are all connected to the universe - our very bodies the reborn remnants of dying stars.

What are you actively doing to perpetuate the “messiah complex”?

Have their been strong personality changes?

I mean, is it like your sitting around the dinner table with friends trying to enlighten them, or save them etc? It seems like you don’t actually feel a strong impulse to “redeem the lost” in this post.

When you say “how could I be indifferent to my creation” why do you think this was god/you rather than just you?

Are you religious generally?

Usually when someone has a messiah complex, they will make sure the rest of us know how special they are. Is that was this post was? You riding in on a donkey and we throw palm leaves?

I guess... everything I have said so far is intended for you to look at alternative explainations. Don’t just grab a psychological term like “messiah complex” and then force a fit because of similarities.

How often are you tripping, and what kinda doses. You might just need a good solid break. Let all the baggage that stirred up come to rest for awhile.

The right thing to do would be to join Star Fleet.

failing that, enjoy your personal archetypes in silk pajamas waving in their own emanations and aethers.

it's just how it is alone with everybody else.

Very interesting.

About the ancient self.. i get that, for me it feels as though the cultural identity i wear is not ideal for me. I feel as if there is some better language i would have been using rather than english.

I just take it as my connection to the divinity of my ancestery & subconcious biological heritage making it self known to my expanded conciousness.

(Usually imediately post peak/disolution) (which makes sense that what is underneath shines through when the slate is wiped clean)

The way i stop my head from swelling from what could potentially be a large ego boost is my perspective that every human has the potential to rule or be a ruler.

If the king dies his next in line will be responsible, and so on and so on until the very last human drops.

So its like we are all princes & princesses in the line & each has within the spark of "your highness".

Its a big responsibility epiphany.

Some people manifest it more strongly than others.

My advice carry yourself good (dont self depreciate) & respect your "shine", you are special just respect the fact that other people are special too, even if they dont know it conciously like you do.

You save creation by living a life that impacts those of others as little as possible. Tread lightly. Spend your money on things that make things better. It sounds like you've received your instructions. Now you've just got to figure out how to do that. One step at a time.

Go back to where you found him (you) and start from there.

Where do you begin creating anyways? Want to “fix creation”? Work outwards through layers of your own design. I like to approach this practically myself as well. Working outwards I make sure these things are good (room/school work, bathroom, upstairs of house, entire house, etc.). Who knows at one point I might be able to guide others but for now I’m busy working on my own castle.

Understand, and in doing so be free from, the depression. The “messiah” concept, in the sense of “other”, stems from avoidance of emotions, which is causing the depression. Or put another way, depression is the result of avoidance of one’s own sensations, via creating a “separate self” in the mind.

Your ‘regular’ experience is conceptual, so your trips are conceptual. The mind is ultimately dictating, and also not. By embracing your emotions, you will experience (in your trips) the other-than-conceptual aspects. You will absolutely love it.

not the OP, but this struck a cord with me. you might be on to something here - all my life i've felt like i was somehow stuck in the wrong body, that the appearance was all wrong (like having black hair when i felt it should be blond, brown eyes instead of green, wrong facial features, etc) and it's always made me feel uncomfortable, like i'm possessing a body other than my own. its like there's "my body" and "me", a sort of mental image or self that's entirely different, and i always feel like one day i'll find "my real body" and finally feel comfortable in my skin.

but that concept has always been "my real body", as if it were something that existed and is separate from my current one. after seeing your post, i feel like this is probably not the way i should be viewing it - instead, maybe i should view this body as the "building blocks are mine, but the builder was drunk when he built it." that doesn't really change the fact that it's not built properly nor does it really change how i feel about that wrongness, but it does make it so that it's :my: wrongly built building, not someone elses.

maybe it would help me feel more motivated to take better care of myself, if nothing else. maybe long enough to learn some shapeshifting magic, or at least last long enough for gene therapy for adults to be a thing.

its also interesting because i, too, don't get much in the way of visuals, and even huge doses don't really seem to hit me nearly the same way most people describe their own trips.

maybe you are experiencing a form of profound compassion to the point where you would (if you could) take on the immense burden of becoming a messiah so you can help humanity (or all creation) with the suffering of life. (your just getting a crazy storyline to go with it, due to the psychedelics. don't forget to 'read between the lines' with your trips, analyze all aspects of it)

compassion (especially a profound level of compassion) are usually hidden deep within us, only very few people actually embody that compassion. So when you trip, you are tapping into this hidden layer that we all have.

I'm reading a book on Jesus right now called "Jesus before Christianity" Its basically about who Jesus really was (an enlightened human, who was basically the embodiment of compassion) and what he was trying to accomplish (a "kingdom of God" which was basically a society where everyone was treated as equals, to the point where you have as much love for someone who wronged you that you do for your own family members.).
In this it says that Jesus said that any position of power within the kingdom of god would "have to use it to serve others and they have to make themselves as little as a child in status and rank"

Just make sure it doesn't turn into a desire (no matter how subtle) for recognition, status, rank, or any other form of validation. Then I don't see your ego being inflated. but that is still not the end of the road, you should still try to go deeper in your trips and transcend the desire for wanting to change anything about creation at all.

That is just my interpretation of it, and just throwing it out there as a possibility or something to reflect on (maybe before your next trip, and then again after it?)

I went through something similar for years when I first started dropping acid. Then I heard Joseph Campbell give a lecture in which he discussed Psychological Inflation.

http://jungstop.com/understanding-psychological-inflation/

http://happinessacademyonline.org/blog/psychology/jung-psychological-inflation

"psychological inflation is a situation in which the individual thinks he is better than he really is. He sees himself almost as a semi-god, thinking that he can perform actions well above his capacity. Inflation describes a feeling of power in which we are blown up by an unknown force that is not our own."

When we first touch the unified divine while still in our ego we feel we are the creator of reality but in our limited ego capacity we obviously are not capable of encompassing the enormity of the task.

We each are one small viewing window of source playing out all possibilities. While we are an extension of source, we are not source. I wracked my brain over this for years blaming myself for all of the horrors in the world.

Let it go! It aint you! Reality is so far beyond all of our comprehension you cannot take on the task of correcting it. Besides how do we know this isn't the way shit is supposed to be? I hate to break it to you but playing out all possibilities includes the shit we label "bad".

IMO this archetype you are encountering may be a representation of your desire to correct life/your imagined short comings and insecurities. Let go of trying to save the world and just work on growing and improving your self. Next time you encounter it, question it. Ask it what it represents. Don't be afraid of it/you.

Everything in your head is a reflection of you. That's the beauty of psychedelics; they allow us to explore the vastness/strangeness of our own sub conscious. Once you understand the true meaning of this you will probably shed a lot of shit that is getting you down.

Life is an infinite miracle and you are an integral part of it. Look for the good and learn from the bad.

BE YOUR OWN MESSIAH
BE YOUR OWN DISCIPLE

Let your Higher Self take you by the hand and walk with you, through the desert of your current life, to the Promised Land!

He Who Saves One Life, Saves The World Entirely.

LET THAT LIFE BE YOU.

Your Higher Self knows where you need to so but YOU must make the steps and take the direction for the steps to go in.

If you have become YOUR MESSIAH. people around you will come towards you, unasked, unprovoked, and indirectly will ask you to the their Messiah too.

You have to save yourself first.

2019. The world is in turmoil. Resourcefulness must expand to make up for dwindling resources. Your compassion must shine brighter than ever in the darkness of the endgame of a ruthless system, dying.

The World At Large is in turmoil.

Your Personal World is in turmoil.

Your Inner World is in turmoil.

As Above, so Below. If you change either your inner world or your personal world, the other two worlds will follow suit even the world stage.

We need an ARMY of MESSIAHS - people who have purified themselves through what Muslims call the Greater Jihad (inner purification journey) to then go out into the world to engage in the Lesser Jihad (purifying the world around you from the position of a purified self). That is spirituality talk but its also rationality talk. It is futile to put on fresh clothes before you have bathed. It is futile to impose your will for a better world on the outside world if you have no0t yet become transformed to the better man for the job.

Only the pure can purify, and purification therefore needs to start with the Self.

Only though being the Messiah in YOUR life will people come asking to be the Messiah in THEIR life, and then your primary task is to help them awaken their own inner Messiah.

The primary job of a doctor is to activate and augment the patient's own healing processes.

Don't get megalomanic but yes, step into the footsteps of your Inner Messiah.

A lot of the New Testament of the Bible is Jesus basicaly saying "No, YOU are Gods and I want YOU to stop being followers and being your own Leaders and WALK ON WATER" to which he got all sorts of weaksauce answers like "we're not worthy" and "yes my Lord I will follow You".

Take it in your own hand.

Your INNER WORLD
Your PERSONAL WORLD
Your WORLD STAGE

Needs you to become the better man, and needs you to do it, in all humility as you are no better than any other, in this year, 2019 and beyond.

THE WORLD NEEDS YOU.

You yourself, your friends and the world at large..

Isn't that worth fighting for?

It starts within.

Let your heart and mind guide you in Highest Wisdom.

Your sword is the fire of your emotion and your shield is the solid ground of your knowledge.

To Arms!
