So this Jussie Smollett guy from the show Empire staged his own hate crime? Why? * 3

Dude goes out at like 2 in the morn in downtown Chicago to get something to eat, says racist homophobic Trump supporters beat him, hung a noose around his neck, and then poured bleach on him while yelling this is "Make America Great Again" country.

Press picks it up and it becomes a national story with a subsequent outpouring of support for Mr. Smollett. People were appalled and compared it to a modern day lynching.

And now we're learning he staged the entire thing. Paid a couple of guys he knew to do it. According to the guys who helped him orchestrate it (a couple of Nigerian guys, one of which was an extra on the show Empire with him), they even did a practice run. Oh, and apparently he also faked a racist letter to the set of Empire prior to this, but when it didn't get any attention, he decided to stage a beating of himself in the street.

At age 37 his career as an actor is now for all intents and purposes over and some experts think there's a good chance he'll serve a a decent amount of time for this considering how much exposure this has received.



Smollett's on the right, the two others who helped him with this are on the left.

Smollett's future scenes in the show Empire have already reportedly been removed by the show. 

Epic fail, man.

Not really man.  I tend to lean left, and find this appalling.  As does pretty much everyone I know.  This behavior is abnormal, probably the result of some serious untreated mental illness.

He wants that fucking money. Wants a lifetime original movie about a made up story he can star in. Wants something to put in that autobiography he's probably doing. There are people in this country who suffer real abuse all the time and don't have a voice to do anything about it. This guy has a voice and fucking wastes it telling lies.

He absolutely needs to get the fullest extent of the law on this. I saw where a former prosecutor said that he's looking at up to 5 years possibly. I'll believe it when I see it, though.

But yes, he needs to be made an example of to deter anyone thinking about pulling a hoax like this in the future because like Burke said it damages any real victims of hate crimes because shit like this naturally makes people more skeptical of future incidents. And this isn't exactly a rare occurrence at all by the way -- I read a lengthy article today detailing a laundry list of past hoax accusations of hate crimes that happened in recent years that were all deemed to be staged.

We had a bad one in Canada a yea or two back, some Muslim girl claimed a middle age white guy tried to cut off her hijab with scissors, even our lame ass Prime Minister rushed to condemn attack. It totally never happened though
