Best program to make logos? * 1
    #24819545 -

To you, which is the best? Adobe Illustrator? InDesign? Something else?

I haven't learned how to use any of these programs yet. I'm new to the world of graphic design.

Illustrator is used primarily for graphic design. InDesign is used mainly for layout design for magazines, books etc.

I think the easiest and best thing to do is Adobe Creative Cloud - you get access to all of their desktop apps for 30 dollars a month...student discount(all it requires is a school name ) is 20 a month, iirc.

If you're getting into graphic design you're gonna have to know your way around illustrator, photoshop, indesign and possibly after effects anyways, and a lot of software has a very similar look and feel to adobes.

I will say that I absolutely hate creative cloud's high cpu usage, but maybe it's improved since I had it.

Are you drawing the logo out first?

Inkscape is a free (GPL) program along similar lines to Adobe Illustrator.

I learned Illustrator in HS along with photoshop, illustrator is perfect for digital art but it has a pretty big learning curve with it's tons of features.

Pretty sure I used this some, I imagine it or another similar free program could do the trick for some stuff. There are some great free art programs.

Krita is another free program with a lot of features, I haven't used it much but it can make animations as well as images I guess. It even has comic templates :strokebeard:

Yeah. I'm using my sketchbook. My friends told me I could use my phone to upload it. I'm not great at drawing yet (want to take lessons)  and I also need to get a lot better at lettering. My friend said she'll collaborate with me.

Is there any equipment any of you recommend for this? My friend said there's things in which I could draw on paper and it'll show up on my computer as I do it. She didn't know what company(s) make it. I have a Wacom, but didn't know how to use it. I bought it around a year ago. Seemed hard. I don't know. I might be better off with a paper thing for now.

Thats cool, I believe sketching out ideas before jumping onto the computer is a great way to really nail down a design.

Um the wacom you can just plug it into your computers usb and use the install disk to install the wacom client. You can update and really customize your tablet with the client. And your friend is talking about a drawing tablet, what you have.

As far as equipment I would suggest getting a scanner if you're taking this seriously, much better resolution than a camera phone.

Drawing lessons really help out but you can just find help online like youtube or google so you don't have to spend a lot of money on a instructor BUT having an instructor is always best because you get direct feedback and you learn little tricks and tips that help out in the long run.

Best suggestion I can give you is draw all day everyday, draw anything and everything. Doesn't have to be perfect or anything but you will notice an improvement in a short amount of time.

She actually said there is something with the paper to computer drawing thing.

Yeah, that's why I want an instructor. I'd like learning that way a lot more.

Thanks for the advice! I appreciate everybody's!

I'd go with either Illustrator or https://www.sketchapp.com/

Also, a bit of advice - don't make a super complicated logo. Highly detailed logos always suck.

Think about all the good logos ever - Nike, Coca Cola, Apple, Pepsi, Mercedes, Volkswagon, Shell, etc.

Good logos are always simple and they can always be scaled down to very small sizes. There is a reason Starbucks keeps trying to simplify their logo more and more every few years, and that is because their original logo was too detailed and it really fucking sucked.

If the logo wouldn't work well on a business card, the logo is shit.

Logos are supposed to be relatively simple.  Inkscape is free and should fulfill all your needs.

Theres a bunch of cool hardware for this.

One is a draw pad, where u draw on this pad, and it draws on your computer screen.

Ive also seen this thing thats like a floating pen on an arm. No idea what the name is but i believe its used for 3D drawing.
