Can anybody help me out with this?
    #25725859 -

https://www.goodnewsnetwork.org/blue-light-reduces-blood-pressure-just-as-effectively-as-medication-uk-study/

I searched online for a while trying to find and figure out the difference between all sorts of "blue light bulbs" and I still have no fucking clue which bulb would satisfy the requirements for this article.

Can anyone help me out with this?

I think according to the article it needs to be non UV?

Also super interesting what the article claims as well.

How about an LED grow light with fully programmable spectrum? You can turn blue to 100% and red/white to nil.  I have one of these for my grow room:  https://californialightworks.com/products/solarsystem-550

The light that CrazyHorse poast ought to suit your needs.

Bonus for it not costing 800 moneydollars :cookiemonster:

You'll probably need a few of them though

Just paint your walls blue.  They used to do this to mental hospitals cause it's 'soothing'.

That or green, I do not exactly recall.

Yeah i noticed the article mentioned someplace changing their lights to blue and seeing a huge reduction in suicide at a train station

Hey man, you can get LEDs that are fixed blue, non-programable.  I wasn't suggesting to get the 800 one, only showing you the kind of lights that can give you what you need.  You need at least 400 watts is what I took away from that article.  I've previously read similar studies.  The blue light is supposed to help with energy, depression, etc.  We don't get enough of it.  Most of our tech uses some blue light, but not near enough to help, and we use it at the wrong time - at night - which creates insomnia and the opposite effect you're looking for.

I would buy an incandescent blue "party" light like this one:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/4-Pack-60-Watt-A19-Ceramic-Blue-Incandescent-Medium-Base-Party-Light-Bulb/111704524877?epid=1119862887&hash=item1a021bc84d:g:mNAAAOSwGYVXBsVN:rk:2:pf:0

Incandescent bulbs lack UV light which is perfect for this situation.

Incandescent lights are also severely lacking in lower wavelengths making for terrible energy efficiency if you put a blue filter over them. Blue leds are a much better option.

Im putting low UV amount over power efficiency here.

LEDs do produce a small amount of UV light: http://www.premierltg.com/do-led-lights-produce-uv-led-tanning-beds/

A demonstration of this is by putting florescent material near it while its on.

Better not go outside anymore then, because you'll receive a LOT more UV going outside for 5 minutes on a winter's day than by sitting under a large panel of blue LEDs for an hour.

But why add more UV light to the equation when you don't have to?

Re: Can anybody help me out with this? [Re: LogicaL Chaos]

You're not adding significant UV by using LEDs. If you look at the spectrum emitted by a blue LED, you'll see that the emission is effectively zero below 400nm where UV begins.

Also, your proposed 60W incandescent light is several orders of magnitude less powerful than the device used in the cited study, making it essentially ineffective.

OK, a guess a full-body amount of blue light is needed. I will give you that. But let me argue from another angle: affordability.
OP likely cannot afford a full-body sized blue LED panel, therefore the cheaper option is an incandescent panel.

Sure, let's have a look at the affordability angle. We need around 0.04W/cm² to equal the power density used in the cited study. This is achieved with LEDs and while it is not specified if this is input or output power (i.e. electrical power consumed vs. light flux generated), let's be lenient and assume the former. Also let's say we need to illuminate a surface of 80x200cm in which an average human body will fit (with a little room to spare). This means we need 640W worth of LEDs, which in the study is achieved by a large array of 720 high-power LEDs. But hey, I'm feeling nice today and let's say that we can build an array that more or less exactly fits the shape of the human body, so we need only about half that amount of power - 320W.

These LEDs likely have an efficiency of some 25%, which means that only about 25% of their consumed power is turned into light. Still quite nice compared to incandescent, which would generate only 1-2% of light per Watt consumed. So we'd need 12-25 times more incandescent power - let's be generous again and keep it at the low end of 12 - we now arrive at a power requirement of 3.84kW (oops!)

To make matters worse, whereas the LEDs output their light more or less entirely in the bandwidth where we need it (centered around 450nm), the incandescents generate a very wide spectrum of light that strongly leans towards the red end. This means that only a fraction of the light generated by the incandescents will be useful in our application. Let's once again be conservative (to your advantage, that is) and assume that about one third of the incandenscent's light output is more or less in the required bandwidth. So we need to multiply our power requirement on the incandescents by a factor three, to arrive at 11.52kW. I think we can now safely agree that while the project was ambitious to begin with, it has by now reached proportions that are completely ludicrous for any home setting. Apart from the fact that your average home connection cannot supply this amount of power, we now have to sink some 1-2 Megawatts of heat (remember that our efficiency in the incandescent scenario is less than 1%!) About the costs? Well, you cited a 4-pack of 60W bulbs at effectively $2.50 a piece. Since we will need quite a few of them, you will of course directly contact a manufacturer in China and negotiate a much more attractive price - let's say $0.25 per bulb (trust me, any manufacturer will be happy to work with you at this scale). After all, you'll be needing some  32,000 bulbs to get the required amount of blue light. Should we also discuss the cost of the power consumed? And the complex optics needed to focus the light of 32,000 bulbs onto the right size and shape of the human body? Anyway, shell out the $8k for a container of directly imported party bulbs and we'll talk.

So back to LEDs, since we just concluded (I think it's safe to say that, isn't it?) that the incandescent route just isn't going to fly. We needed around 320W worth of blue LEDs, so for convenience sake, let's use 10W high-power LEDs of which we'd need 32. Let's be a lazy purchaser once again and assume that we cannot make a better price than $5 a piece. This boils down to $160 worth of LEDs, for which we'll also need the appropriate drivers, so let's again be lazy and double the cost to $320. Note that it's extremely easy to get this price down by searching for a good offer and negotiating a nice price on a batch of 32 LEDs and the associated drivers. Still, even if we're being completely retarded and shell out the bucks at essentially $1 per Watt of LED power, the costs are still more than an order of magnitude lower in equipment - not even talking about energy consumption.

Do you want to pursue this brilliant idea of yours any further, or are you good for now?

I'm not sure on the science but I think blue light messes with your sleep pattern, that's why phones and tablets have blue light filters, for night time use.

If you were going to use it to reduce blood pressure youd probably not want to use it too late in the day:shrug:

Good point. I have to dim all my blue LEDs cause I super sensitive to blue light when I sleep. Forgot about that.
