THis is really kinda intersting.
Psilocybe stuntzii's are a pasture mushroom which, in their natural pastureland habitat are extremely rare.

When fertilizers are created from manure collected from pastureland, the shrooms mycelia spreads like wildfire when liquid oir other fertilizers are introduced into and planted in sod and or in topsoil as ferilizers and thus they love garden lawns around new condo complexes, Apartment buildings, office buildings, new restaurants, along streets between the sidewalks and curbs of new lawns, and later in the fall months appear in woodchip and mulched garden beds, but are actually growing from the soils under the chips. They do feed on alder.

Any new lawn in the PNW from Eugene Oregon to B.C. between the Olympics and C ascades, are capable of producing these shrooms. Usually they will grow from two to three years, sometimes all-year-round if the temperatures are right and no big freeze occurs. Two other species also occur quite frequently with the P. stuntzii;s and they are also from pastures and from manure, whereas the stuntzii's are found in a pasture int he soil but not directly form manure.

The two manured species are P. fimetaria and P. sierrae, both whh macroscopically resemble blue ringers abd occur in and amongst them.

Sometimes a lawn of Stuntzii's may have some P. baeocystis in them. This is also another pasture mushroom, rare int he field and commonin man made environments.

mj

They love human development areas for maximum growth.

Some lawns or muclched areas can produce from five to fifty pounds of shrooms if one is lucky.

However, during the last 12 years, many pastures south of Southcenter adn north around the Carnation areas have been disrupted by human encroachement of one story non-poluting buiildings, thus forever stiffling the growth of these shrooms in man made environments.
