Don't chromebooks have a bunch of limitations? There are devices that do just that but you might want to look in to compatibility first, for the hardware and the OS.

like to play on windows on your chromebook? or to just transfer files?

windows gets specific to the hardware sometimes, so drivers wont be there that you need, and even if all the drivers are present it will think you stole windows and ask for keys for all your programs

linux on the other hand you can drop a linux hardrive in almost any coputer and it will boot no problem

For most of the normies out there, an operating system is just a bootloader for Google Chrome.

Transfer files. My pc is out of commission but there’s a few things I need to access.

It has literally nothing to do with a Mac.

And yes, most likely you'll be able to access your windows drive if attached as an external drive to your Chromebook as it's a Linux platform with generally excellent compatibility. However, Google's built in limitations may hamper your effort.

That's also an option, but then he still needs some form of external or network storage to salvage his files. But it's a good option with potentially a better chance of success since you won't face the limitations of Chrome OS this way.

Why does have nothing to do with Macs? His Chromebook has a Mac OS. Confused.

It's not running a mac OS though. Chromebooks are a Google thing.
