I've often thought I'd like to learn...along with banjo, base, guitar, and any other weird stringed instrument I come across.

But that has yet to happen.

Yeah where can you get a sitar?

It's kind of a mystical instrument imo

I've looked into buying a sitar to learn, but I read that the ones that you can buy in America are very poor quality. To get a good sitar, you have to get it imported from India, but that runs a little expensive (over $800, if I remember correctly).

Ravi Shankar simply rocks... also check out the album that (i believe) his daughter, Ananda Shankar put out a few years back.. nice fusion.

And I don't play the sitar, but my grandmother does, and has since she was maybe 15... but she lives in India, so I guess it's not as rare there.

damn $800 is a little steep but I would rather spend the extra $$$ and get a quality instrument, as usually you get what you pay for .  Thanks for the replies
