Shaggy parasols?
    #25573970 -

Are these Chlorophyllum olivieri?

Found in a Pacific NW park among wood chips under bushes / small trees. When cut cross section, the stipe rapidly turns orange. The annulus is thin and floppy. The gills and spore print are white (the final picture was taken indoors in yellowish light).

My first impression is that this is Chlorophyllum olivieri or something similar, but can you tell us the dimensions, i.e. the diameter of the cap, the length of the stem, and the width of the stem, just so we can rule out Lepiota?

There was a variety of sizes. The caps ranged from 10-15cm in diameter, with stipe diameters 1-2cm and total height from base to cap of 10-15cm.

Those certainly look like C. olivieri. Your biggest concern - that it was C. molybdites would ruled out by the spore print - that one would be green.

Disclaimer - I'm just a hobbyist and cannot absolutely guarantee any ID offered. I'm most familiar with the species found in the Pacific Northwest - those found in other parts of the world may vary considerably, so always do your own research to find out what grows in your area and what lookalikes you need to be aware of. Understand that many mushroom species cannot be 100% reliably identified by photographs alone, even by an expert, so it may not be possible to go beyond suggesting a probable genus.

Yeah, they're Chlorophyllum species, one of the 'edible' ones. I would guess Chlorophyllum olivieri. If you're thinking of eating them, make sure you cook them thoroughly, and if this is your first time, only eat a small amount as some people can be intolerant of these species. Some sources say these should maybe considered as poisonous.

Thanks, I had read that but appreciate the information.

I'm getting more confident with my ID skills, just nervous about not knowing what I don't know. Thanks for the help.
