Have I got honey mushrooms growing within sight of my favourite chair?

Hey folks. Sorry if mushroom jargon is not quite accurate - I am just learning.

These caps growing on the decaying stump of a maple. Some of it is growing on roots, about 50cm from the main stump. Growing in clumps, overlapping caps in many places. Too dark to get a 'in situ' photo - sorry.

Gills: White in younger specimens, more yellow brown in older ones.

stem: 5-8cm, getting more bulbous towards bottom, obvious longitudinal striation, large cream annulus, yellow/brown on outer margin, gills decurrent.

Cap: 1-4 inches diameter, convex to plane, dark brown scales very visible, dark at centre of pileus.

Spore print color: WHite

Bruising: Don't know... just picked them!

These guys are growing right outside my window, so I can see them from where I eat breakfast. I missed a few flushes before I got excited about mushrooms. Are these edible please?

Definitely Armillaria sp. and thus edible. However, just take the caps (young closed ones preferably) and make sure to cook them thoroughly. So either parboil them or fry them for about 15 minutes before ingesting. Start with a few, since some people get stomach problems even though theyre well cooked.

Great news! Now I need to try to remember exactly where in my rambling garden they were growing... They will be back I suppose!
