AMAZING POWER !!!

Today I had a chance to watch the detonation of about 10 grams of nitroglycerin, it was incredible, and scary at the same time.

I don't realy know why i made a topic about this , but im just so shocked and excited i had to tell someone  :biggrin:

What do you guys think about this kind of stuff?

yeah i want some!
i used to make nice little grenades out of 1 inch threaded pipe with caps,a little bit of chlorine and a smidgen of brake fluid,no detonator needed=deadly!

This was obtained from a friend of mine, but I tried to make very small amounts at home, although I don't really like handling much of that stuff, since it is pretty eensitive.

damn you could be a chemist!
i was going to get into pyrotechnics,but with kids i opted out.
its practically impossible to get chemicals and stuff here in oz now,theyre even trying to ban fertilizers.
we are allowed to buy fireworks but arent allowed to store them or let them off without a one day permission pass.
i love explosions and crackers and stuff.

Cool.  You're the first other Croatian I've seen on these boards, I am 1/2 Croatian.  I used to be into pyrotechnics too but I never got into nitroglycerine, too scared!  :shocked:

The last thing I was doing was acetone peroxide but distilling h202 is a bitch so that got old fast and I had shitty yields.

I used to empty the gunpowder out of blackcats(very tedious and time consuming) and roll it all up in one big dynomite paper towel and blow up stuff like mailboxes, large flowers, and my favorite as a kid: ant beds.

Yeah, I like pyrotehnics and explosions, but i think I'll have to give it up. The risks are simply too big, and unfortunately, today such stuff is often associated with terrorism, so it really isn't a good idea to do that kind of stuff.

Did someone here ever try to taste some nitroglycerin? It has a sweetish taste, however, one must be careful not to taste too much, as it is known to be harmful in larger amounts.

I thought the ingredients for RDX are quite common..? Is it the hexamine you can't get?

Never made it though.. what concentration of HNO3 do you use? My friend has a bunch of nitric acid, what's a good way of concentrating it?
Here you can easily buy hexamine as solid fuel tablets for portable cookers

I know that sulfuric acid can be concentrated by heating. Unfortunately, I'm not sure about nitric acid, maybe by distilling it.

Where do you live, Zagreb?
When I still lived in Novi Sad, as a kid, I used to go to Korcula beach. (do you know where that is?)

Now I'm living in Australia Melbourne, after living in New Zealand for almost 10 years.
