Unknown treasure in a box of keepsakes
    #2518888 -

Work got rained out today so out of boredom I was going through some old shit.  A box of keepsakes from my life.  I had these two old poker chips since I was a kid.  My parents gave them to me as souveniers after returning home from a trip to Wendover, Nevada (we lived in Utah in the 70's).  Out of curiosity I decided to find out if they are collectors items now.  After spending most of the moring doing on-line research and correspondence with several collectors I have my answer....

First chip: State Line Casino $1 chip-  Although it is common amongst collectors it can easily be sold for $30.  And I am also waiting for a response from a collector/expert about a mis-spelling on it.  The city name is stamped wrong.  The chip is actually stamped "WENPOVER, NEVADA".  I'm not sure yet how this will affect its value.

Second chip:  Jim's Casion & Saloon $1 chip- This one is another story.  Although it is not considered to be a truly rare chip it is definately not common.  Even in poor condition this chip can easily fetch $70-$100.  A mint condition chip can go over $200.  I am told that I could easily sell this one for over $100.

So whatever you do, don't throw away all that shit you been packing around for 30 years until you check it out!!

So are you going to sell them now or save them and sell them later?

Holy Shit, just got an e-mail from the collector.  The mis-spelling puts it into the "error chip" category and pushes the price of the chip well over $100!!

I wish every day off work was this much fun!  Whoopee! :crazy2:

I'm gonna sell 'em.  I'm not the collector type and I'm too impatient to wait another 20 years for the value to double.
