That's interesting. I know a girl from Sevastapol who pretty much claims the opposite and is against the Russian agenda.
She's also a super-liberal freedom fighting rave goddess of love.
So there's that.

The reason I travelled to Crimea is because I heard two different stories about it - one from the mainstream western media which you believe, and one from the acquaintances I know who frequent Russia.  I wanted to see for myself what the truth was.

While in Crimea I spoke with many dozens of people, and I also went out of my way to ensure I spoke with at least 1/2 dozen more people who voted to stay with Ukraine (which was just a small minority).  Neither side said they had "a gun to their back"; neither side said they were under pressure to vote one way or another due to "Russian occupation (which no one observed); neither side said the vote was fake as they knew the vast majority favored going back to Russia; and neither side was afraid to talk to me (in fact both sides were very eager to tell me their opinions).  Both sides said nearly the entire Crimean peninsula turned out to vote because it was a very big deal for everyone.

What amazes me is how easy it was for me to determine the truth, yet how few reporters go to Crimea to find the truth for themselves because many are scared by the western news about how it's 'under occupation', war, etc.  The West makes it difficult to travel there, but I posted my experience here.

You don't have to believe my story, as I'm just one person you don't know posting on the Shroomery, but you can do what I did and learn the truth for yourself.  It's a beautiful place for a vacation, but just make sure you bring enough Russian money, as your credit cards won't be accepted there nor will your cell phone work due to US laws (Russian credit cards and cell phones work fine though), and that you fly in from Russia rather than the west, as Crimea is considered a domestic flight.

Actually, here is a very good article confirming my story, if you trust USA Today.

Eastern Ukraine is another story.  I haven't been there nor would I risk going there.

Well then, firstly thank you for caring enough about what happened there to try and find out what happened in 2014 it is very commendable.

Here’s where I am coming from. I was watching a month worth of 24-7 live feeds of ALOT of people dying with no more then rocks and moltof cocktails vs heavy Russian military presence. Maybe it wasn’t a genocide but I saw a lot of Ukrainian citizens die simply because they wanted independence from one of the most tyrannical countries on the face of the planet.

Hearing this story I wonder how many of those people you talked to truthfully want to be under Russian control rather then just pretending to love Russia because you just saw nearly the entire opposition killed and don’t want to be dead. If you could explain why they said they liked being under Russian control maybe that’d help me understand why they would feel that way.

I will ask you to consider, who were you talking to? Was it what was left of the pro Russian factions after the killing? Was it the same people who spoke up for independence and are now dead? I don’t want to diminish your experience and it’s probable that some Ukrainians are truly Pro Russian but I feel like you can’t ignore the cries of the dead. You can kill them but you can’t ever kill what they stood for. In a way it’s like North Korea in the sense that if you want to stay alive you religiously say North Korea is the greatest because you don’t know who is listening and it’s easier to just say you love it.

I’ll read your other post and maybe I can pick your brain a bit about it

That wasn't Crimea, that was either Kiev or Eastern Ukraine.  And you'd be correct; people are still dying in Eastern Ukraine because they want independence from Ukraine.

Again, I'm talking about CRIMEA, not Kiev, not Eastern Ukraine.  Do you know how many people died in Crimea?

I am astonished that one of the usual suspects, who I will not name, is making a lot of sense now days. Will wonders never cease?

Of course western media lies a lot and peddles propaganda. Few beside the far left believe it any more or at least take it with a big grain of salt. We have no room to talk about russian or cuban, chinese propaganda, we are bigtime with propaganda of our own with lots of lies and suppression of the truth.

I have sided with just about every other country their investigations and subsequent reports....you have sided with the russian narrative.

Just because you have travelled to a country doesnt make you an expert on their affairs.

I could send you into pockets of any country and you could easily be convinced of nothing more than a localised ideal.

Were the russians there at the time of the vote.?
If so why?
(we both know they werent wearing russian uniforms)

To be more clear, you sided with the Western media's narrative, I sided with the narrative of dozens of people living in Crimea.

It depends on what you mean by "Russians".  65% of Crimea was ethnic Russian.

>I have sided with just about every other country their investigations and subsequent reports....you have sided with the russian narrative.

The other countries did little or no investigating. Mostly they just parrot what the msm says and we all know the msm is extremely biased. It is controlled by a small handful of super rich oligarchs who are the propaganda arm of the elites. You know, the people you folk claim to hate and yet you do their bidding.

Someone on the ground who actually talked with people has a MUCH better idea what is going on than us couch potatoes getting news from the propaganda machine. Plus the fact I did see reports from not as biased news sources saying the ukrainians were mostly in favor of independence. East ukraine is being destabilized by russia, imo but I haven't been there so I'm just going by reports.

Back on topic: I'm kind of glad to see the last of the worthless obama holdovers get the boot. Did he lose his pension? What a shame, maybe he should not have been such a partisan hack. Most likely the dems will figure a way so he gets it anyhow or courts will give it back.
