i recognized him primarily from that horrid 'musical' group Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch, then his acting career seemed to take off when he played Dirk Diggler in Boogie Nights which was a pretty good flick.

I didn't even really know what Marky Mark was from and I knew they were the same people lol. Don't remember where I learned it from but it was before I had a computer and internet (otherwise I would've known what he was from instead of just knowing of his existence for years first).
