Man picking mushrooms in Tillamook State Forest missing

TILLAMOOK, Ore. (AP) — Authorities from multiple agencies are searching for a 49-year-old man who was reported missing after he didn't return from picking mushrooms in the Tillamook State Forest.

KGW-TV reports Michael Scott Lund was reported missing by a friend Monday.

The Tillamook County Sheriff's Office says Lund was in the area of Drift Creek Forest Road about 30 miles (48 kilometers) east of Tillamook.

Lund was described as a 5-foot-10, 220-pound white man with brown hair and blue eyes. He was last seen wearing a gray flannel shirt, tan pants and a baseball hat.

The sheriff's office says Lund doesn't have food or water for an extended stay in the wilderness.

Lund's family says he doesn't suffer from health or psychological issues.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Tillamook County Sheriff's Office at 503-815-1911.

McCoy: Jim, what are you doing?
Kirk: I'm asking a question.
"God": Who is this creature?
Kirk: Who am I? Don't you know? Aren't you God?
Sybok: He has his doubts.
"God": You doubt me?
Kirk: I seek proof.
McCoy: Jim! You don't ask the Almighty for his ID

I visited the cheese  factory, on a road trip. My Western shirt, jeans, shiny belt buckle, polished work boots, beard trimmer, common courtesy, and spending money weren't good enough, because I had a pony tail.

The story might encourage you to imagine it as a hippy place, but I think of it, in a Deliverance sort-of way.

Missing mushroom picker found dead in Tillamook State Forest

TILLAMOOK COUNTY, Ore. – Authorities on Thursday morning recovered the body of a man who was reported missing on Monday after he didn't return from picking mushrooms in the Tillamook State Forest.

Michael Scott Lund, 49, was found Wednesday night about 400 yards from where he was last seen. Lund's friend reported him missing on Monday and said Lund's last known location was in the area of Drift Creek Forest Road near milepost 2 on Highway 6, about 30 miles east of Tillamook.

Portland Mountain Rescue found Lund's body but the Tillamook County Sheriff's Office was unable to recover it until Thursday because he was about 70 feet down a steep ravine.

Authorities said it appears Lund fell down the ravine. The preliminary cause of death appears to be head trauma.

The Tillamook County Sheriff’s Office, Washington County Sheriff’s Office, Mountain Wave Search & Rescue, Pacific Northwest Rescue and the Oregon Department of Forestry assisted in the search for Lund.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call the Tillamook County Sheriff’s Office at 503-815-1911 or 911 if necessary.

I have hiked, in some of this stuff, well fed, slept well, and on a good day, and had close calls.

You're asking for it, putting yourself in a compromised state.

Also, around these people. :lecture:  :kkk:

Well that sucks...

I fell into a reservoir one time trying to catch a snake.  Luckily I fell into water after tumbling down dirt though.  That's a chaotic oh shit feeling when you loose all latch and gravity takes the wheel.  :fatfear:

The snake got away..

this is sad, perhaps a fellow shroomerite. Nature is a cruel mistress, however theres nothing saying (that i caught) implying he was in a compromised state (except for "lost"). He was fully sober chasing after some spores n shroomies, as far as anyone knows, and it states he was in good psychological condition.

You dont need to be high. Just get lost till the dark around ravines, falls, etc, no flashlight, obv no working cell phone. Although it prolly is better to be a bit high, you might get more freaked out so you might be more careful with your steps update: i think you meant hungry etc, my bad, it does say that. And that does fuck with the mind in a survival scenario

Really all you need is a slick/wet rock or some loose mud.  Fallen trees get real nice and slick when wet.  Accidents can happen, it’s just unfortunate this possible one happened where the terrain compounds the results.

That always gets me about these things.  Just casually going on a stroll in the woods, and like that it’s over.  Going to the store to grab some milk etc, over.  It can make a person afraid to get out of bed if you really think on it.

Yup. That is called agoraphobia^. Its not so irrational, really. They do say "most accidents happen inside the house" but i think in terms of Serious fucking accidents...car shit, anything can happen really. Or you can just get arrested or mugged or whatever. Yup! Best not to think about it! Lol.

I dont wanna make this political, but the way things are is enough for some people to do just that, really, and be afraid of everything. I think part of it has to do with giving more power to the hateful and taking it away from the "peace loving social justice warriors" and people see this in black and white, youre a blood or a crip. No in-between.

I try to just ignore this shit as much as i can, from cops to robbers to so-called presidents.

But survival is important too.

Drugs can help with that.

I don’t think they can.  Not if you’re trying to retain any realistic measurement in this life.  Can’t run from it, gotta walk right into it.

You know why cheetahs run as fast as they do?  50% because they want to and 50% because they have to... that’s life.

I should probably get you to specify which drugs you’re talking about..

Like i said above, benzodiazepines can actually cause agoraphobia over time. Something thats been witnessed since like the 70s

Thing is, its what people use for treatment of said agoraphobia and general anxiety. ironic, huh.

I intended to be ironic, in saying that drugs cause people to have freak accidents, but also help people to overcome their fear of the same freak accidents.

Drugs are serving a useful purpose, in being a "social lubricrant", where someone would otherwise be dysfunctional.

Ironically, the labor market, as well as technological fields, are somewhat saturated in drugs, which are helping people to function.

-- not that I would tell people to recklessly endanger themselves.
