Ziran Does Coir


Step 1 - What we need

• Coir - Bricks or Shredded (I will be using shredded coir)
  
• Vermiculite (optional) - Although I like it for the water retention
  
• Gypsum (also optional) - And again, I like it for the extra water retention as noted here --> Gyspum in soils
  
• A big ass bucket - I get my pickle buckets from the local fast food places, they usually just throw them away.
  
• Mushroom spawn - Duh, you kinda need this one for making mushrooms
  
• A mono or mini-mono - and again, another no brainer!
  

Note: If you are using big ass bricks, and not the 650 gram eco earth bricks, heres a link on how to break that shit up easy peasy to make a 650 gram amount

Breaking Up Coir Ez Mode

Step 2.1 - Prepping the Coir

If you are using the eco earth 650 gram bricks consult one of these two guides.

If you are still here and following along, here is how I do my coir.

Preparation will vary based on how much coir you will need. When I do my big mono-tubs I use the standard 650 grams of coir, a handful of gypsum, and about 244 grams of vermiculite, (I like to do 75 grams per 200 grams of coir) and 1.25 quarts of water per 200 grams of coir. This ends up being about 4 quarts of water at the 650 grams of coir mark. As always, check for field capacity. When everything is thoroughly mixed up, you only want a few droplets of water to come out when squeezed tightly.

This will be me spawning 1 quart of spawn to 200 grams of coir, 75 grams verm, and a handful of gypsum.

Okay! Lets do this!

Step 2.2 Measure out your ingredients.

1. Coir 200 grams



2. Verm 75 grams



3. A handful of gypsum (just so happens that my handfuls are about 44 grams)



4. And last but not least, 1.25 quarts of water.

Step 2.3 - Mix all the dry ingredients into your bucket

Coir. Check!



Verm.. Check!



Gypsum... Check!



And then I like to mix everything up nice and good.



Step 2.4 - Boil and add your water

This step is pretty straight forward, bring your water to a roaring boil, and then dump her into the bucket, then replace the lid on your bucket, like in the pictures below.







After about 15-30 minutes, I like to give it a good ol' stir just to get all the water mixed in evenly. This is also the step where I identify if I need to add more water or more verm.

Step 3 - Preparing your sub

Now, after your coir has cooled to at least less than 90 degree's Fahrenheit, we can mix our spawn in with our prepped coir!

Not quite there, but almost.



In the mean time, considering this coir is almost ready to be mixed with our spawn, Break up our spawn then we can soak our grain jar with water for about 20 minutes like so.



And simply drain our water by hold the lid tight like this



Get our tub ready, I like to make sure shes all cleaned out. I will be using this
style tub for my mini mono.



Then, once our coir is cooled down below 90 degrees, dump our spawn into the tub, and last but not least, dump our prepped coir into the tub, and mix it all nice and evenly.







Mission Complete Boys. You've just prepped and spawned a tub.
