Just started on suboxone and have a few questions

Posting in the pub for max replies and quality answers. So I just quit a moderate IV dope habit of 6 months or so of daily to every other day use and I even told the doctor that my addictions was mild in comparison to some of my friends who would be laying in bed with the shakes all daywhereas I could still move around, albeit slowly and groggily almost as if I had the flu. And I even reads it my addiction to him as about a six in terms of withdrawals. He started me out on 16 mg, That is two 8 mg tabs under the tongue once in the morning.  Being totally new to Suboxone I am curious, is this does too hot as I feel quite groggy and tired during the day to the point where I am nodding off. It is not a high really just an intense sedation.for those of you familiar with Suboxone is 16 mg all at once in the morning typical or should I, as others have recommended maybedivide my dose 8 mg in the morning and then 8 mg around six hours or so later

Obviously I plan to wean myself off of Suboxone eventually,but this is where I am at currently. Thank you in advance.- ~Dancing cactus man

Probably would be easier to switch to kratom and then taper off that, I don't know much about subs though.

Maybe post over in the Reddit kratom sub, I see a lot of people over there using kratom to get off suboxone or other meds so you should get better feedback.

If you were shooting dope every other day, you don't need suboxone. It is much more difficult to stop taking that than dope. Was for me at least.

Not positive about subs but yeah I have read the withdrawals from pharma opiates can be much much worse then heroin, or at least last way longer.

OP:  I've never been prescribed suboxone, but I've used it lots & have known tons of folks on it.  16mg is a fairly high dose to be taking, especially if you've only been moderately using dope for 6 months.  I'd venture a guess and say that that's where your sedation is coming from.  I'm no doctor or anything, but if I was you, I'd experiment a bit and find out what your lowest possible dose is for maintenance.  Try 8mg in the AM, then another 8mg 12 hours later.  Experiment with cutting back to 6mg every 12 hours.  Sub strips are easy to cut into even pieces.  I really recommend being on them for the least amount of time possible; they're a real bitch to come off of, and it gets harder the longer you're taking it.  Find the lowest possible dose you can take to maintain, hold there while you get your life back on track, then taper off.  Good luck to you.

The sub withdrawals were just so much more miserable for me. I wish I would have never taken it at all.

Kratom is just so much safer then most pills, it's hard not to recommend it all the time :lol:

Also great advice :super: less is more is a sort of a kratom mantra but it's pretty true for a lot of stuff in general.

I was on a path to kill myself with dope I was overdosing monthly. At least with subs I can function on a daily basis and won't die

Nah man, I'm just teasing you a bit.  I'm a big believer in kratom too.  It doesn't do it for everyone, but has been a godsend in my life.

At least with subs you might not get some Fentanyl-laced dope.

Yeah, that's one of the huge plusses of subs; no fent.  Fentanyl is in everyfuckingthing now.  Also, it helps you live legally.  Suboxone is a good thing imo. 

Glad to hear that you're taking the steps in the right direction, dancingcactusman, and that none of your ODs were fatal.  It's tough at first, but you'll get through it.  I've been off dope for over 3 years now- I assure you that it gets easier.

I would be willing to bet you would be fine on 4mg or less

The docs like to give those high dosages so they can get a life long custy

It does it for me!  I quit heavy drinking by using kratom.  I might have one or two beers a month, if even that, man.
Thank you very much again for recommending that I try it out.  Instead of drinking buckets of gin & tonic every night to get a solid sleep, I mix kratom into water, and I get much more restful sleep without all the adverse effects of alcohol( dehydration, hangovers, the extra calories from cooking large meals after midnight to help soak up the alcohol, not being sober and able to be awoken when sappy hears scary stuff out in the forest from our bedroom window at night, etc.).
I should have tried kratom sooner, to be perfectly honest, and I genuinely thank you for suggesting it to me.  It has improved my quality of life quite a bit, dude.
You may say "I'm no doctor", which is understandable as it is true, but you are quite knowledgeable about substances, and you generally can get a good feel for people, and I have personally benefitted from that.  I hope others here might listen to you as well so that their lives might be improved in any capacity, or even saved.  You are an asset to our shroomy community, and we are lucky to have you around.

That too!  I don't even smoke weed anymore in a legal state because weed stays in one's system too long and I drive a lot, and driving is a privilege which I need and enjoy, but the laws are nowhere near where they need to be in terms of getting a DUII/DWI for cannabis. 
Where cannabis sure helps with aches, minor pains, and generally pacifying the intense man-beast that I am, it isn't legal, so kratom allows me to be chill, and ache free while still enjoying my driving privileges.
If there were more accurate ways for police to test one's cannabinoid level, and the laws more based in reality in terms of being impaired(or rather not being impaired) by cannabis, I would certainly safely and responsibly smoke weed every damn evening all evening when I am home and do not have to drive anywhere.  Maybe one day, dude.

Man if you truly want to get clean I would not be taking 16 mg a day that's a crap load.  You know your body better then some doctor that's getting kickbacks from some suboxone pharmaceutical company.  Subs can be useful but if you continue at 26 mg a day your withdrawals will be horrible.  Personally I would experiment on a day when you have nothing going on.  Wait until you start feeling withdrawal coming on then take 2 mg of sub.  Wait an hour or 2 and see how you feel.  If you need more take 2 more until your ok.  As soon as you start feeling a high or buzz type feeling stop, you've taken too much.  Find your dose where you feel ok but nothing more.  Then work it down from there.

You may need more then 2 mg everybody is different but 16 is insane.  8mg a day in reality is a decently high dose and will cure most people from withdrawal.  But if you want off of everything you have to taper your sub dose down.  This can be achieved in a relative short amount of time if you really want it too. It won't be easy but it's better then having to rely on something to get out of bed.  If you find a dose where your just "ok" nothing better then try and tough it out and stick with it then every day or other day drop it down.  You may even get to a point where you can take half a mg every other day, subs have a long half life.  Then try and make the jump to nothing, and if you need a small piece take it but try your best to tough it out.

If you do this your really not going to feel great for a couple months.  It may even be 6 months or better.  But you will get to a point where you will start getting that good stuff going in your brain without drugs.  If you think about it what's a couple months of just getting by and not feeling the best to the rest of your life. 

Addiction is a bitch man but it can be done and it can be done somewhat painlessly.  But you have to be tough and you have to be dedicated.  You will have times when shit goes wrong and you have a bad day or week,  this is when you really have to tough it out and stay dedicated and not take more to feel better and make the situation "seem" better.

And with people recommending kratom.  It's really not a bad way to go if done right.  I jumped from subs to kratom and the first few days were bad but then it got better.  But if you go that route you still have to do the same routine if you truly want to get clean.

Good luck man.  I hope everything works out good for you.  And I just want to say one more time 16mg is quite a large dose.  Start small with it and work your way up to get where you need to be.  I just don't want to see another person take large amounts of subs everyday and then when they have to quit or something happens and they can't get them anymore go through weeks and weeks or horrible withdrawal.    Just seems like big pharmacy gets people hooked on opiates then to get them off they really just give them more of the same.  It's a huge huge money maker for them.

Yeah, you're on too high of a dose. Try taking as little as possible for you to feel okay throughout the day and stick with that dose. Your taper will be shorter that way.

You seem to have had a very light heroin habit. Kratom will probably work very well for you. Try some kratom before you get too dependent on high dose subs.

Just to be clear, I have never been on suboxone, but I was on methadone for 5 and a half years. From what I read though, 16mg seems to be a very high dose. The doctor probably put you on that to keep you on longer. With methadone, they actually start you on a minimum dose and you work your way up to a comfortable dose. Suboxone seems to be the opposite.

As already mentioned, 16mg seems like a high dose for your habit.
I am also a big advocate for using kratom to get off the dope. That stuff has very likely saved, if not elongated my lifespan significantly.

If you only had a 6 month habit, I'd taper off A.S.A.P

You can by on 1 MG of Suboxone a day without withdrawals. Take it 4-5 hours before bed, at a low low dose. That way you get good sleep. People always end up taking too much which actually makes the withdrawals worse in the end because Bupe is super strong in terms of binding to receptors. By taking a large dose of bupe for extended periods you're actually making yourself more addicted to Opiates than you were before you started the Bupe. Also Heroin withdrawal lasts only a couple weeks followed by a couple months of PAWS. Bupe\Methadone withdrawal come with a month of withdrawal and 6 months of paws. Not fun and impossible for most to overcome without some kind of external support, whether that be family, a girlfriend, or a rehab\recovery group.

My advice for someone coming off a 6 month habit is take a small dose like 1 MG of Bupe daily for a week, then cut it to .5 MG bupe and Kratom mixed together the next week. Then switch to Kratom completely before eventually ending your habit for the rest of your life. That's the goal.

Way too high of a dose, which is commonly prescribed unfortunately. Suboxone is a trap itself. Your best bet is to do a rapid taper then stop & focus on sobriety & getting back on solid footing. I did the suboxone shuffle myself, and in all honesty it just became part of the problem. I was dope sick for a month when I finally came off it, and I never took the doses folks are prescribed. Always way less, and it was still super effective & euphoric as well. A bandaid at best. I weaned down to around a milligram a day before I stopped, and again I was still sick for a month. Tried several times to stop, but only made it 4-5 days before caving. Wound up going to rehab to get some time under my belt, and that worked.
