If i were u, i would bike around and look for garages that look like chop shops and look for pieces of the car. I mean, it could be too late but worth a try.

Sounds like u did all the proper things to protect yourseld after the fact.

In the future, invest in one of those brake-locks u lock over your brake pad. Or even a tire lock if u wanna go heavy duty. U can also buy tracking devices but theres a fee for the service.

Sorry for your loss, i get real paranoid about graft theft auto in some areas. Some thiefs are fucking ruthless.

As for a new car, i like American cars cause they are easy to work on such as Chevys and Fords. But Japanese cars are realible. Honda civics, Toyota corrollas. Bad thing about Japanese cars is that they are hard to work on cause everything is so damn compact on them.

I don't live in a rough neighborhood at all It's actually mostly college kids and yuppies - but it's still the city and car break ins happen often, and there have been other cars reported stolen in the area recently. Seems like the other ones were joyride situations and they turned up though.

And well to answer your question, I think I may have dropped the car keys - I located my key set but the car key isn't on the carabeener so I think I might've somehow dropped it while I was carrying a shitload of stuff into my house that day. My guess is somehow found the key and pressed the unlock button and just waited to see which car lit up - this was in a lot that my house borders, so anywhere I dropped it between the house and the lot would've been in range.


I am not car savvy in the slightest beyond checking my tires and checking fluid levels and stuff - I stay far away from the maintenance aspect and just pay someone else who knows about that stuff to do it, so really I'm just looking for a car that's relatively idiot proof

Sorry to hear about this, if you only need a car here or there, maybe look into renting? There was some program where you subscribe to a rental agency and jusy pickup a car when needed, it was called somehing like zip cars.

Ive had two bikes stolen in a College Town. The thiefs know where all the money is, right in the College Town.

Nah, it was okay - it was a 2009 scion tc, pretty fun little coupe - but a touch inconvenient when you have a dog and for transporting things - it had a lot of miles on it and I was definitely planning on trading it in within the next year or so. LUCKILY I didn't finance it or anything and don't have to consider paying off a car I don't have anymore . I took off comprehensive because I honestly figured that the collision I had on it was really all that I needed, figured it would maybe get knocked around with the parking situation but that it wasn't worth paying an extra 200 a month.

On the otherhand I've left my old subaru from the '90's unlocked in west philly in a much sketchier area by comparison, many a time before(long story) and no one wanted anything to do with it

That's not nothing though, here the roads are very narrow, treacherous, and hilly - I often find myself curb surfing to avoid scraping up the bottom of my car or backing down a windy hill with cars parked on both sides of the road in all directions to allow another car to pass because the road can't fit both cars.

The scion was TERRIBLE in inclement weather and anytime we got any snow that car went no where for the rest of the week - and tbh, I miss my old big purple SUV - sometimes I have a few different dogs I'm transporting, or just equipment, or people in general - so a compact SUV definitely is high on my list....I'm wary about American cars though...I thought about maybe a RAV4 or something though? I also do get out to the mountains frequently and while I really don't off-road, something a little 'tougher' seems nice.
