How much do you want to bet that if the USA told every nation that disapproved of our policies that we were withdrawing all of our troops, all of our funding, cancelling all of our treaties with them, removing all taxbreaks and financial incentives forimport and export, and inform them that we'll stop considering them an ally, and thus tell the international community that we have no interest in them, that they'd come grovelling back to us, cowering and begging for our money? Watcha think Russia would do? Germany? I'm sure that they'd continue their "hatred" for us, right? hah, hardly. It's as I've said before, everyone that isn't the richest, most popular, handsome kid at school hates that kid, tho it's really envy.

As for your question about travel, I'm sure I've been to more nations than you have, I lived in India for an umber of months. In Veranasi, not a regular tourist location. I stayed in a small guest house and spent most of my time hanging out with the local indians learning about their customs and such. I'd say that damn near every single one of them asked me if I could help them get into America. Other nations that I've been in, tho never in a European nation, I've had the same thing happen.

Why the fuck wouldn't people like the USA?

Does the Saudi plan call for a right of return? Withdraw to the '67 borders, when they were viciously attacked by all their neighbors?

They might, but I bet you'd also see a significant reduction in terrorist attacks against us.

Russia and Germany would be left to their own devices. Personally, though, I'm not in favor of complete isolationism(you might want to talk to Evolving to get that perspective), but I think that if we are going to be part of the international community, we should take a position of cooperation rather than domination.

The level of hatred towards America is much higher now than it used to be. If you went back about 5 or 6 years and visited Egypt wearing an American flag, I bet people wouldn't give you very much shit. If you did that now, you'd be flirting with disaster.

When they were created as a nation, they had their pre-'67 borders. Frankly, I wouldn't have a problem if they actually made the West Bank and Gaza Strip an official part of Israel, but Israel doesn't want to do that, because then they'd have to give the Palestinians citizenship rights, thus making them the majority and causing Israel to no longer be a Jewish state.

Never have, never will. I've had several Jewish friends who would agree with me here. Hell, I have a Jewish professor who teaches my Middle Eastern studies class, and she's sympathetic to the Palestinian cause.

Being hated by people in a dictatorship isn't a bad thing :smile: If you said that the level of anti-semetism rose sharply in Germany after hitler took over, it wouldn't show me how wonderful anti-semetism is.  Also, a friend just got back from Egypt, and she had a great time.

That's the right of return issue, that if the refugees are allowed back as citizens they will overwhelm the Jewish population. Very sticky issue when I consider my personal distaste for theocracy.

The jew-hating question was probably somewhat unfair of me, but it was really the only appropriate response to your equating of the elected Israeli government with suicide bomb fanatics. I've read enough of your posts to feel comfortable that you are not really a bigot.

By cooperation, I mean cooperation with the international community via groups like the UN and NATO.  I don't mean cooperating with terrorists.

No, being hated by people in a dictatorship is a bad thing.  Being hated by the dictater himself is not.  And I'm not saying that anti-American sentiment is a good thing.  I'm saying that there's reasons for it that don't just have to do with some dictator's propaganda, as was the case in Nazi Germany.  I'm glad your friend had a great time in Egypt.  I'm guessing she didn't flaunt the fact that she's American.

I have a personal distaste for theocracy myself, but I also have a distaste for injustice, and to not allow Palestinians to return to their homeland in which they grew up is unjust. The Palestinians are occupied by a military power, are not citizens of any country, have no freedom of expression, and no sovereignty in their own land. I'd be throwing stones too if I were them(since they don't have the right to bear arms).

So why don't you recommend that Saudi Arabia give a big chunk oftheir barren desert land to the "palestineans", and let the Jews have the land that has been theirs historically for thousands of years?

I don't remember saying that welfare recipients would rise up and revolt if we took away their welfare, and if I did say such a thing, I apologize. I may have said something about crime rates going up(particularly theft), but I don't believe there would be any sort of armed revolution resulting.

The Palestinians have been living in that area at least as long as the Jews. Plus, most of the Jews dispersed long ago and spread out over the world. Most of the Israeli Jews that lived in modern Israel when it was founded were immigrants from Europe and Russia. They took the land from the Arab Palestinians who had been there for thousands of years.
