Transplanting Reishi
    #2410239 - 03/09/04 07:35 AM (19 years, 11 months ago)

I have the opportunity to dig up several established resihi logs that fruited last year. The person who has them on their land doesn't care about them and just lets the fruits rot on the logs. I am unsure of the viability of transplanting reishi logs, though. I understand that reishi will not fruit off a log until said log has been buried in soil. I would assume that the mycelium utilises the soil as a water reservoir and for beneficial microorganisms and the log is simply a source for nutrients and "home base" for the mycelium. I would expect a transplanting to cause a "shock delay" from which the mycelium would have to recover before fruiting again.

Overall, I'm clueless... any input is appreciated.

Reishi doesn't need beneficial microorganisms from soil so I guess that the trick is only to keep the humidity high enough. You shouldn't have problems if you bury your block in a shady location and keep it moist. Shocking can even trigger more fruiting.

well, cool. i figured that if my assumptions were incorrect that the shock would trigger fruiting. I'll keep that in mind and coordinate the transplant with favorable fruiting conditions. thx!!

Absolutely right!
I grow reishis indoor on beech wood chips. They do fruit with no soil at all. But they are VERY thirsty. I have to mist them heavily each morning.

But I will bury my logs (still growing) as well when colonised. Mainly for the moisture.
