Quote:
Conservative Senator Lynn Beyak mounted a defence of the residential school system for Aboriginal children in the Red Chamber Tuesday, lamenting that the "good deeds" accomplished by "well-intentioned" religious teachers have been overshadowed by negative reports documented by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission.

"I speak partly for the record, but mostly in memory of the kindly and well-intentioned men and women and their descendants — perhaps some of us here in this chamber — whose remarkable works, good deeds and historical tales in the residential schools go unacknowledged for the most part," she said.

The commission, which conducted an exhaustive six-year study of the system, found physical, mental and sexual abuse was rampant, and some 6,000 children died while in care because of malnourishment or disease.

Quote:
"Mistakes were made at residential schools — in many instances, horrible mistakes that overshadowed some good things that also happened at those schools," she said, rising to speak on Senator Kim Pate's inquiry on the over-representation of Indigenous women in Canadian prisons, a topic Beyak largely ignored in her lengthy speech.

Quote:
"The fathers and sons and family members of the nuns and priests, to this day, have to bear the reputation as well, and nobody meant to hurt anybody," she said. "The little smiles in the Truth and Reconciliation Commission are real, the clothes are clean and the meals are good. There were many people who came from residential schools with good training and good language skills, and, of course, there were the atrocities as well.

"I was disappointed in the Truth and Reconciliation Commission's report in that it didn't focus on the good. The people I talk to are Christians."

Yeah thats awesome.  I still dont think people should be forced to participate in same sex marriage if they beleive that doing so would be going against their god (and you shouldnt judge people who do beleive that. Even Hillary was against gay marriage as late as 2013. Infact im pretty sure trump is the first president who was for gay marriage from the beggining. I may be wrong but even Obama was agaisnt gay marriage at one point.Even us libral cuckadians  have only had gay marriage since 2005.) but i agree with the pope saying that gay people should not be discriminated against. I am glad he said that.

ISIS is a small percentage of Muslims.  Syria had major problems long before ISIS, and Iraq is in shambles because of those good old fashioned western values that our soldiers brought into their homes shortly after kicking down the doors.

Probably a lot deeper than that. There's our 50+ year history of the US gov pulling springs, manipulating, pushing propaganda, funding various shitheads, doing what they can behind the scenes with the delicateness and grace of a retarded elephant.

We played our part fucking up the middle east, but you can't pin it all on western values or the West in general for the state of the area. Its always been a turbulent violent region in conflict, always will..and it has nothing to do with the West. Itd still be a shithole without us

As part of the push to civilize and bring the Native populations of Canada  in line with Western values
we employed a government funded Christian Residential School system
running from something like 1880 up to 1996
6000 out of 150 000 feels relatively significant for its pool,
but not into the statistical millions where death stops being a tragedy
:cookiemonster:

A lot of her comments about the issue have been kind of rambling,
she eventually got removed from the committee
but pretty sure the 'good intentions' were the abusers
and the 'genuine smiles' and Christians she refers to talking to
are with regards to some of the individuals who went through the schools
and came out speaking English and religiously Christian
because what is a few thousand deaths and rampant abuse
if we managed to convert some of the heathens
amiright?  :borat:

Yep in the US obviously similar practices were done with the natives, same with the Spanish once they arrived in the "New World".

To answer the OP, that woman can identify as w/e she wants. Race the way we know it today is a classification system of recent of invention, like the last few centuries. I mean many folks in the Caribbean dont even identify as being black when to most of the world they would be seen as such.

Gender isn't a social construct, gender norms are however. If it was then you wouldn't have people who are intersex going through transition. There's even a famous experiment that went horribly wrong in the end trying to prove that gender could be conditioned and determined by one's environment. It can't be because its innate.

Transhumanism is going to bring up some interesting discussions about this subject of self identification. I personally think anyone has the right to do whatever they wish with their body/identity. This doesn't really affect anyone in anyway at all so let bygones be bygones I say. If racism still wasn't such an issue then odds are this person wouldn't be dealing with so much drama over how she views herself. But she herself created this shit storm in the media by making a lot of wild claims that were proven to be false and doesn't have a great track record of social justice work, thats what really perpetuated the drama fest even further. When you work in such fields your reputation is everything and she did a hell of job sabotaging herself.

Yeah, some barbaric acts were brought forth against the peoples that lived in any respective area that saw conquest
it is not to glorify the pre-existing cultures in comparison
Aztec culture, for example, considered some quite gruesome things to be high regard.
However, to me at least,
one of the most redeeming and forward-thinking features that makes modern Western culture what it is
is the freedom and capacity to acknowledge, discuss, and address such issues

there are a number of other places in the world where such reflective criticism of cultural growth
is not afforded to citizens, who instead have to abide by archaic values without question

The ability to recognize and openly speak out against issues where my country was less than adequate,
or even outright harmful,
is something that means my country can grow from past mistakes
and is something I cherish.
if my country did not allow such criticism of the founding and building of the nation
and the government refused to grow from such issues
it would be little better than living under apostasy laws
unable to even renounce religion or ingrained political beliefs without risk to my life

I didnt say they werent a minority. I said they were taking over countries.

There are many things you could blame for the situation in north africa and the middle east. You could also blame the problem with inbreeding in the muslim world.

https://en.europenews.dk/-Muslim-Inbreeding-Impacts-on-intelligence-sanity-health-and-society-78170.html

"Statistical research on Arabic countries shows that up to 34 percent of all marriages in Algiers are consanguine (blood related), 46 percent in Bahrain, 33 percent in Egypt, 80 percent in Nubia (southern area in Egypt), 60 percent in Iraq, 64 percent in Jordan, 64 percent in Kuwait, 42 percent in Lebanon, 48 percent in Libya, 47 percent in Mauritania, 54 percent in Qatar, 67 percent in Saudi Arabia, 63 percent in Sudan, 40 percent in Syria, 39 percent in Tunisia, 54 percent in the United Arabic Emirates and 45 percent in Yemen"
-Reproductive Health Journal, 2009 Consanguinity and reproductive health among Arabs.

http://reproductive-health-journal.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.1186/1742-4755-6-17

"The risk of birth defects in first-cousin marriages may be estimated to be 2-2.5 times the general population rate, mainly due to the expression of autosomal recessive disorders [23, 31, 32, 33]. Another estimate puts the offspring of first cousin unions at a 1.7-2.8% increased risk for congenital defects above the population background risk [34]."

Inbreeding can effect cognitive function and sanity and there is undoubtably a problem with first cousin marriage among muslims. Many will even defend first cousin marriage. So its different from other cultuters since some of their problems have a biological root.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1392217/Muslim-outrage-professor-Steve-Jones-warns-inbreeding-risks.html

Mohammed Shafiq, chief executive of the Ramadhan Foundation, which promotes the image of Muslims in Britain, said: ‘I know many Muslims who have married their cousins and none of them have had a problem with their children.

‘Obviously, we don’t want any children to be born disabled who don’t need to be born disabled, so I would advise genetic screening before first cousins marry.

'But I find Steve Jones’s comments unworthy of a professor. Using language like “inbreeding” to describe cousins marrying is completely inappropriate and further demonises Muslims.’

Alot of people think that just cuz they will marry a first cousin means that everyone is fucking family. And it is pretty common in wealthy families. But not as much for the common folk. And I don't mean Muslims specifically I mean throughout history people that have no qualms about marrying family don't necessarily prefer it. Everyone seeks better opportunity and in that old world view they are more likely to try to marry up and thus marry outside of the family. It's one of the few easy ways they have to grow wealth. It's one of the few hopes they have of developing wealth.

They are more likely to marry into family for the same reason West Virginia, Tennessee, and Kentucky would be more likely to marry family, it is isolation. The closest people, the people they interact with most, are likely related. Anyone further on is often difficult to access and rarely encountered due to lack of transportation and a lack of 'down time.' I don't know their definition of "blood relatives" but if even 30% of that is 2nd or 3rd or 4th cousins the meaning of those statistics changes considerably.

And why do you care that its still going and want the mods to shut it down? Are you afraid your opinions wont stand up to scrutiny? You did ignore my question about non-binary genders multiple times.

I could say ive seen left wing arguments like a million times.

CC its not because of isolation like in small american communites. Its widespread in the muslim world. Its very high in parts of Brittian that are heavily populated by muslims. Higher than some muslim majority countries. Its happening in heavily populated areas. Its because of their culture. Marriage between cousins is looked down upon in western society where as many muslims will defend first cousin marriage like the person in my third link and in the video.

I know lots of people have married their cousins but that has been declining for the rest fot he world where as one of the links i posted states that it is on the rise among younger muslims.

Just like persecution of gays, inbreeding appears to be on the rise in muslims and falling in westerners over all.

And the statistics may or may not include second or third cousins but i think its first cousins. Not sure but this came before it. Its a rough estimate but it is specifically refering to first cousins:

A rough estimate shows that close to half of all Muslims in the world are inbred: In Pakistan, 70 percent of all marriages are between first cousins (so-called "consanguinity") and in Turkey the amount is between 25-30 percent (Jyllands-Posten, 27/2 2009 More stillbirths among immigrants"
Statistical research on Arabic countries shows that up to 34 percent of all marriages in Algiers are consanguine (blood related), 46 percent in Bahrain, 33 percent in Egypt, 80 percent in Nubia (southern area in Egypt), 60 percent in Iraq, 64 percent in Jordan, 64 percent in Kuwait, 42 percent in Lebanon, 48 percent in Libya, 47 percent in Mauritania, 54 percent in Qatar, 67 percent in Saudi Arabia, 63 percent in Sudan, 40 percent in Syria, 39 percent in Tunisia, 54 percent in the United Arabic Emirates and 45 percent in Yemen (Reproductive Health Journal, 2009 Consanguinity and reproductive health among Arabs.).

There was a study on muslim inbreeding done by someone with a name that looked very middle eastern but i only saw the abstract and i had to request permission for it so i didnt bother. I would have liked to post that one though.

Here's where people get confused.

Gender identity is biological. Racial identity is entirely socialized.

That implies that you must udentify as a gender with a biological basis. There are only two biological genders.
