Me being devil's advocate here, could someone (especially) transgender/Like minded, please explain to me the difference between the two if there is any..

Is there a difference? Is it the same thing?? Can I be whatever I believe I am? Does that make it "true?"

Well I am  black man stuck in a white mans body. Everyday is a struggle. I hate my white skin and I hate everyone saying I'm just a white boy and I'm crazy. I'm going to go through melonin reassignment surgery for I finally be who I really am.

I don't think race and culture are one in the same, you can belong to a culture regardless of race.

I think she shouldn't have claimed to be African American, I think she shouldn't have claimed to identify as anything other than herself. She can be immersed in African American culture but she'll never be African American.

I'm not going to say that the two issues are one in the same, transgender and racial affiliation but there are similarities. That being said, I can see some irony in the transgender community for some of their remarks.

Dunno, was born white as snow,
hide away from the sunlight to maintain maximum paleness,
have had a Haitian immigrant refer to and treat me as being black
with a response of "doesn't matter" to me pointing out my skin tone and background

still do not feel black as a result of him doing such
but someone else said it about me, does that make it so?

If someone refers to me as a man is it going to make me feel as such?
Or is it more just for their comfort in trying to communicate with me?

they are free to do so, freedom of speech warrants protection,
and have been called many worse things,
does it make me any of them?

Am I going to hell because Islamists have branded me an infidel?
I objectively do not believe or follow their religion, I guess I am an infidel,
but then, how far does their label carry?  If I am Christian is God suddenly angry with me
because someone who calls him Allah called me an infidel?

To me, identity politics are stupid no matter which side is blathering on
about how they want other people to adhere to their individual views

words and perceptions are not my issue
when perceptions escalate into violence, it becomes an issue.

Do not want to suffer terrorism at the hands of an Islamist for not believing or supporting their religious beliefs
as political ideology
and likewise do not want to suffer violence at the hands of a transphobic individual for violating their political ideology
and it does not help that Islamic religious beliefs mean that there could quite possibly be
a cross-over involved within violence enacted against me
since many, though not all, Islamists are quite transphobic

beyond physical violence tho,
do not really give a shit,
someone else obsessing over my genitals and gender is not going to get me to lift my skirt for them

I was going to make a thread about this.

Trans black is so common, more common than male to female trans are.

How many white dudes have you met that speak only in African American rapper language? A shit load guarunteed. I've met so many of these guys. They're transblack. Or more inappropriately referred to as "wiggers"

I'm gonna try hard to avoid reading the other replies here, but for you I will stick my neck out.

I'm transgender. I'm involved in social justice discourse but also highly critical of it; I don't agree with all the approved opinions. So ask any dogmatic Social Justice Warrior this question and you get shouted down immediately. I actually have an individual opinion though. Here it is.

When the Rachel Dolezal shit went down, I came to really empathise with her, especially when I heard more objective accounts of her situation and feelings. People were unbelievable assholes to her. Honestly even if everything that was said was theoretically true, I can't believe it would justify that level of vitriol. Dolezal was at most kinda dishonest. But she could have been a mass murderer for what people were saying. And note, not every black person felt she was evil, but if you were in the social justice scene you were only allowed to think she was evil. Intense conformity.

What I saw was that every single argument (except the "it's JUST DIFFERENT OKAY" argument) was the same stuff that was used to deny trans people their rights back in the day. Race is just a construct and isn't real so you can't be a different race = gender is a construct. You're appropriating black struggle = you're appropriating women's struggle. You're doing violence by trying to "own" a black body = you're doing violence by trying to "own" a female body. And so on and so on. I'd challenge anyone to come up with an argument that can't be immediately turned into an argument against trans women by simply changing a key word or two. I have never seen one. (Except the "it's just different okay" argument, which is not an argument).

If you say you feel something, I believe you. I think your feelings are valid. And I don't see why I can live as female while you can't live as black. Maybe you need to get some community together and fight for your rights. I guess if you do some trans people will have your back, me at least.

Are you "real"? It's a funny question. Depends how you define things. I'm female in appearance. People treat me female. That is "real". I also (presumably) have XY chromosomes and can play a male role in sexual reproduction. It doesn't hurt me to reflect on that reality. It's real too. Am I male? Depends on what context, in a narrow reproductive sense maybe, but in almost every practical context I fit into the female box and not the male. I'd say something similar could happen for you. In some way if we understand black as a culture (it's more than that but that's an aspect) then we can consider the fact that there is already precedent for people being "adopted" into different cultures. That may be sort of what happens in my case come to think of it.

What do you call a man with white skin that immigrated from Africa? do you call a white Hebrew man white or Jewish? does white mean they are from the US or from Canada or European or Antarctica? what do you call a black man who is from Asia and has been for generations ?

Ethnicity is only important as an identifying factor so that you can be arrested. Most people have very very little reflections of culture from ethnicity. Modern culture is partly ethnically based but not very much. I've met very many "wiggers" (you may google if you wish) and more than a few black rednecks that have the fine sort of sense of the world that only generations of being isolated by sticks can instill.


Ethnicity will be totally irrelevant in another millennia or so.
