How do you deal with your migraines?

I get them a lot following 2 neck injuries in the last year. Tried a lot of different meds, diets, doctors, just dealing with it.  I haven't found anything as effective and non mind altering than Sumatriptan.  Very interesting chemical if you read up on it, and works within 30 minutes. You don't have to take a whole pill, it's not addictive, and after the migraine is gone, it is like it never happened.

I've been using :mushroom: for the last couple years to deal with my migraines. They work well but can be rather inconvenient.

That med I just recommended might be up your alley. Mine got so bad, and illegal drugs not being an option, then put on light narcotics, I got willing to try anything. An older friend broke me off the smallest piece of one of those with a glass of distilled water ( which I had been drinking all morning only to throw up and black out ) and it went away before we got back to my house.  Bout 20 minutes.

1.  Eat .
2.  3 Advil.
3.  Water w/ or w/o Electrolytes.
4.  Nap.

Not always the cure. Trust me I've tried it all. However, those things do work if youre malnourished.

I'm not seeing the shroomery. 

So many people here grow mushrooms for their headaches, and risk a great deal of their life.

Though they work for me, it's not an option.

I DID see a specialist, at one of the top neurological centers in the country.  Did you read what I posted, or the information in the link I've provided?

I didn't even negate your method, it just isn't a cure all, neither is mine.  Welcome to the shroomery, where we share ideas and experiences.

It seems like people who recommend things like ibuprofen for migraines don't understand what a migraine is.  Maybe they just get bad headaches and assume bad headache = migraine.

Sumatriptan can work wonders, but for some it doesn't do the trick.  Any physician should have no qualms about prescribing it.  Maxalt might work for you if Imitrex doesn't work.

It usually ends up with me throwing up the food and the advil or aleve.

After that I become hyper sensitive to all my senses and have to lay down somewhere safe quickly with minimal lights and sounds and then the real fun begins while curled up in the fetal position or laying in the solider position .  Ouch.

I had migraines all my life till I turned 25 and I discovered MDMA. I would get migraines once or twice a month and it would take over 12 hours for them to go away, laying in a dark room room with no noise. After a long stint of MDMA usage I haven't had a migraine since. It could be a coincidence, but I seriously doubt it. Either way, glad they are gone. That was almost twenty years ago.

That's why I recommended it. I was so against new meds after this fiorcet bullshit my doc has me on. Sumatriptan is a life saver to some addicts.


When you have a true migraine, eating or drinking anything is usually not an option, hell just turning the lights on makes me throw up, and this all started AFTER I quit drink, stemming from injuries.

I'm finally going to admit myself to the hospital tomorrow because whatever condition I have is getting a lot fucking worse.

My girlfriend had severe migraines, so bad she would have to go get a shot a minute clinic. It got in the way of our relationship at some points, we just recently got ahold of them. She uses Sumatriptan, Zofran (nausea) and sometimes Diclofenac if she wants to try to avoid the clinic.

The key for her has been following a strict migraine diet, look into it. As well as identifying triggers, for her beer and wine are big ones. She did a bunch of research on migraine diets and we went for it. She has experienced very few since we have stuck to it, mainly she gets menstrual migraines (wouldn't effect you), and stress migraines. For example she got one while I was in the ER for my stomach thing not too long ago.

There are certain fruits and veggies to avoid but you go bland and work your way back up with food until you figure out what you can and can't eat.

With prescription meds, avoiding my triggers, keeping stress as low as possible, and drinking lots of water. 

Been dealing with migraines for most of my life. I have a pretty good handle on them nowadays but a few times a year it flares up bad, usually due to stress.

I've noticed (since I started paying attention thanks to you Cosmic, I didn't even know my headaches were migraines before) that I get the aura alot more than I get the actual headache.

Which a similar thing can happen with anxiety and it's been a pain in the ass separating the 2.

I'd say it's aura because I get them when I'm not anxious. But then I also get panic attacks when I'm not anxious. I think my brain is just totally broken.

We both use eye masks to sleep, but having a little cooling pack in hers works wonders for her migraines.
