Becoming a hermit

I'm thinking about adopting a more hermit-like lifestyle. I find that as the years go on, I find myself struggling to find happiness within. I have this powerful urge to go out and find a companion, but I think its mostly out of selfish reasons. I really just want someone to fill this gap in me that I cant seem to fill myself. I've been pretty depressed recently, and after my last trip, it occurred to me that I dont think I'll ever truly be happy unless I find happiness within. I need to be happy with who I am and what I have to offer before I go trying to use other people to fill that gap.
Still gotta leave my house for work, and I'm currently trying to finish up my degree so I got that as well, but I think otherwise I'll be spending more time alone. I've been meaning to pick up meditation, and I'd like to get back into going for solo runs in the early mornings. Might also be a good idea to drop off social media, although I'll probably continue using reddit as its my main news source.
Anyone else practice hermitism?

Ironically when I was a young kid I loved hermit crabs. Had a whole tank full of em. Occasionally they'd kill each other, but generally lived a civilized lifestyle. They fascinated me

people who live more active lives (exercise and all) and who are surrounded more by friends and family tend to be happier overall. lack of such and isolation aren't really all that great for the mind.

i get there are people out there that tend to prefer to be alone, but overall people are happier when they are active and have friends and family, but i am pretty sure it's a statistical thing. You are also missing the bit where i said "tend to be.."
anyway, people are for sure happier with more active lifestyles as exercise gets your blood and endorphins flowing, and increases all levels of all sorts of things like BDNF.
besides, you can be introspective without living entirely alone.

i think we are kind of saying the same thing here, m8... Also, i don't completely buy that it was "proven bunk" that people tend to be happier with some sort of social structure... we are social animals after all and come from primates. it's how we are for the most part.

A little off-topic, but in my younger days when i was always low on cash and seeking a buzz on, i would get a liter of 'Hermit" wine, as it was the cheapest drunk known of at the time. 20% alc. and did it ever taste like shit.... but would do in a pinch.

People are social animals. Being introverts means you are easily overstimulated. 100% of physically able people feel better with excersize. Its pretty much fundamental to well being. People don't differ that much. Self imposed isolation seems like a mental defect though

I dabble. I agree, dont seek the love of another person until you love yourself. Such a thing cant be forced it must be earned and built with time

I think you are mixing true hermits with the socially withdrawn and emotionally isolated. I definitely have experience with the latter, and it loses it's appeal after you get sick of masturbation.

i tend to prefer being alone, as most people tend to annoy me.
But back in college, i was living alone in an apartment, and at one point, it got VERY lonely to the point of deep saddness.
I do enjoy alone time, but after awhile, u need some social interaction. I believe its essential for all people to have real life interactions to keep your happiness going.

I did that, for the most part. I think things like FB and Twitter or w/e are okay to use if you're using them in moderation and simply to connect with people, but I see people ( and I have done this too ) expressing all these deep and personal emotions on the public facebook feed and it's like, damn, you really just need a real friend to talk to.... So I stopped using facebook and I recommend it to everyone. Facebook is lame and distracting.

Shroomery has replaced FB for me.
FB is garbage anyways. Shroomerites have class.

Ephesians 6:12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Psalm 12:6 The words of the Lord are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times. Hebrews 11:3 Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear. Revelation 3:11 Behold, I come quickly: hold that fast which thou hast, that no man take thy crown.
