I haven't had any success with it because I've never tried it because I've never heard of it. I know this means I really shouldn't reply because I really don't know jack shit about it, but I was curious and wondered if you could briefly briefly go over it. Thanx.

I do believe that a copy of this tek can be found in the Grow/Find area. To add some content, and I don't mean a lot, I've never tried it but decomposing leaves and grass play hosts to many molds and bacteria. I know this, decomposing leaves are HIGHLY acidic and should have some kind of buffer added, I do believe. Peace, Wildman[This message has been edited by Wildman (edited July 10, 2000).]

I have a compost pile that has been getting old leaves and kitchen scraps for years. It also gets fireplace ashes. Would these help the acidic PH from the leaves problem? How would I know if the PH is within acceptable range? I know where to find fresh cow manure. I might could collect say five or ten gallons of it and mix it in with the compost. How would I know when this has aged enough? Should I wait until September when the daytime high temperatures have moderated to under 100 degrees? Would spraying down the pile provide acceptable moisture supply on hot dry days, or would I need a shade/humidity tent over the pile?

To answser your question, ashes are a very good source to lower ph. I know all of this becasue I live in the woods. Sometimes I get lazy about raking in the fall and let the leaves pile up until early December. Usually the rotting leaves kill the grass and then moss grows. Moss prefers an acidic environment in which I use ashes or lime to cure this problem. There is a lot of work that needs to be done to this tek, but it is possible that it will grow into a great tek for us all to use, since I have a plenty of leaves and cut grass. Peace, Wildman

sunlaotao, I haven't ever used ashes to lower ph for what you are probably talking about. I've just used it to cure mossy areas. Peace, Wildman

I'm having problems finding anything but dolomite lime. Heard the Magnesium was a problem with dolomite lime. Anyway I'll keep looking.
