The Michigan courthouse shooting.

Isn't it about time someone invented a lock for the holster so that only an officer who's fingerprints are on the database can 'draw the gun' that could put a stop to all the legitimate "he tried to grab my gun" shootings. Just a thought.

Also sorry about being a cunt in that thread about it the other day, I actually really like the UK :lol:

It seems like the whole world is seeing this wave of reactionary sentiment, not just the US with Trump. Communities are becoming insular and hostile. I really wonder what is driving it. In America we like to blame our education system for Trump's popularity but I think there is more to it than that, countries that are known for high quality of education are also gravitating toward the same kind of politics. Trump is very stereotypically American but the sort of identity politics that underlie his popularity seem to be a global trend.

As exemplified by mr chaos who posted above. 

I think it may be boredom. Peoples lives have become so mundane and predictable they want to shake up the status quo and don't give a toss about the dimentions of the spanner they throw into the government machinery, some people just want change for changes sake.

Major civil unrest might, for the likes of mr chaos, be just the thing to perk up his drab existence.

I am reminded a little of this song from 1970.


Some parts of which seem not just a little prescient.

My take is that it has something to do with the way cultures are affected by the information age.

We all expected the Internet to usher in a golden age of openness and awareness, but people always naturally seek to have their views and attitudes validated. Before the Internet gave us this huge smorgasbord of media specifically tailored to our particular life experiences, people would get their news from outlets designed to cater to everybody-- newspapers, local news, CNN, etc., which would provide a common frame of reference for pluralistic communities to discuss politics and other issues of the day, whether they were pissed off or not.

Telling people they already know everything they need to know is a booming industry right now. Communities that were once pluralistic are splintering under the auspices of social networking and at the behest of partisan clickbait journalism. Homogeneity will always be easier and less threatening than pluralism and tolerance, so a majority of people prefer the comfort of their homogenized echo chambers over more challenging discourses with people from different backgrounds. Then they go out and vote for Trump or some other neofascist piece of shit who tells them it's good and okay and smart to want to build these walls.

IMO existence isn't inherently drab, but echo chambers are drab as fuck, and that probably contributes to the sense of restlessness that makes these people want to vote for dangerously crazy shit.
