Gary Johnson: Libertarian for President
    #23217048 -

Could this be a breakthrough year?

I thought this thread might garner more attention considering the state of our presidential possibilities.

I liked the ideal of lassiez-faire once - until I realized without any regulations all the forests that I so enjoy would be flattened to the fucking ground in decades as they have been everywhere else in the country that didn't receive federal protection. And the people who want to cut them down are pissed  much of the drive behind the "occupiers" in Oregon was free reign on mining and forests on federal land again... I'd prefer to see the remaining tiny percentage of old growth forests in the country untouched in my lifetime.

And that doesn't even touch on what I think would happen with corporate abuse under a complete hands off system.

I hear you. Their message is too simplistic. But I think he's more of a Llbertarian Light. I'd like to hear him in a debate.

I as well, I definitely don't see enough about him and a lot of what I hear I like, I was a big Ron Paul fan in the last few elections... I just don't know if I have faith in the product of straight libertarianism anymore but if that isn't really his take then I'd like to hear more detail definitely.

Libertarianism is a bullshit ideology that has nothing to do with libery, and Gary Johnson doesn't have a snowball's chance in hell getting elected, this year or any year.

Trump and Hillary are the two most hated nominees in our lifetime

It's at least worth considering

I am firmly against libertarianism

Would prefer the status quo if there actually was a choice

The premise of libertarianism is minimal government, that would mean no:

USDA, CDC, BLM, etc

In practice, no one would touch these agencies. Though funding and reach can be curbed, and new vital agencies won't be appearing.

I'm in favor of a large government, run by less people, different people.

Minimal governmental interference in our lives is better in my opinion so I generally agree with the Libertarians.  Extremism isn't really good in any form.  I like the Libertarian platform but there are some extreme elements that wouldn't work, just like extreme Conservative or Liberal ideas won't work with America's substantial socioeconomic and sociodemographic heterogeneity.
