So I work in a dog kennel, ask me anything about dogs

I work in a dog boarding/daycare facility. Have been working there about a year, I'm now a manager. There are typically between 50-80 dogs in our facility on a given day, about 2/3 of them daycare and 1/3 of them boarding.

In my opinion, the cutest breed of dog is the yorkipoo.





But the best all-around companion dogs are bordercollies and border collie mixes. They are intelligent, they are affectionate and like to be touched but are not clingy and constantly jumping on you or begging for attention, and they have energy but are not overly excitable.


Pit bulls are definitely more dangerous as a breed than other breeds, it's not just a conspiracy. You can absolutely have a pit bull who isn't dangerous, and we have many of them in our facility. But as a percentage, more of our single dogs (dogs who can't be in group with other dogs) are pit bulls than any other breed, and they clearly show greater signs of aggression. It's not only that they tend to be more disposed to aggression, but that it's dangerous when they decide to attack. Chihuahuas are also aggressive, but they aren't dangerous because they're tiny

i have another one, would u get in trouble if you let all the dogs breed together?  would be kinda funny if everyones dog went home with a bun in the oven and they had no idea where it came from

It's definitely the least rewarding part of my job, but it's not so bad. Now that I'm a manager I mostly delegate cleaning duties to other people, but I sometimes have to do them myself.

One time a malamute who had to be crated had a stomach virus and had like 7 piles of diarrhea and vomit in his crate and it got all over him and he had to get a bath, that was a mess.

Yes we have two, one is named goose and he is very energetic like a labrador, another is luna. she doesn't come in often, she is older and more laid back.

we don't keep them in cages, other than a few of the really "bad" ones, they are in rooms in groups of 7-15 dogs and they play and get along well most of the time in there, our biggest responsibility is watching for fights to prevent injuries

dogs are required to be spayed/neutered in order to enter the facility

the most fun part of my job is getting to know the personalities of all the regular dogs.

I know Marta's personality. She is energetic and playful, she is stubborn and intelligent. I know Raven's personality. She is shy and hyper-intelligent. I know Gabby's personality. She doesn't trust men, and is afraid to be touched in general, but she feels comfortable around her sister, lucy, and if you're touching lucy and she sees that you're not harming lucy, she will trust you to touch her. I know otis' personality, he is spunky, and kind of a bully, but he's so cute you have a hard time being mad at him. I know the personalities of literally hundreds of dogs, far more than people at this point, it's kind of strange.
