So I adopted a Cat
    #23103686 -

About a week or two ago me and the boyfriend decided we wanted a cat for the house, make it feel more livly and ward away the negative energies from previous pets (the house use to be a cattery ironically enough), anyways we looked at the nearby multi-million dollar animal sanctuary and after a bit of conflict there we decided to look elsewhere.

My boyfriend was a previous employee of the shelter, anyways his ex co-worker said she has been fostering cats and we could come by and pick one out. She told us her house was a wreck and when we asked how many cats she had, she gave a humorous fifty two reply.

So me and the boyfriend think fifty two is obviously a joke rite? There is no way this women has fifty two cats in a two bedroom house? No way..

Well low-and-behold, we get there and the house is destroyed! When I say destroyed I mean garbage everywhere, empty cans of cat food, dirty dishes, ripped up clothes from cats clawing it, cat shit all over the house on the floors, litter boxes in every corner and last but not least, I shit you not this women probably had close to thirty cats inside her house. With at least another thirty out-door feral cats living in her yard in these make-shift huts.

:awedisgust:

I couldn't believe it, it was insane.

We picked up one of her 1-year old cat/kittens and promptly left, I call him my rescue now.

Jesus man that's a lot of cats, I myself have one cat and she is awesome.

I feel like cats are just more mysterious. Dogs are cool tho too I've just had a lot of bad experiences with people who have poorly trained dogs.

I've read about it, seen it on T.V but I'd never experienced it first hand; total shift in prospective.

It was really hard not to bust cheap jokes; it's one of my many flaws but I kept my composure.

She said something like "The Sanctuary won't let me foster any more cats."

My first thought was to say something along the lines of "Oh wow I can't imagine why!" or "I wonder why." The cat I rescued is pretty anti-social right now, and overall terrified of his new environment but I suspect he'll come around, there is no way I'd let her take him back. I can't imagine he got a whole lot of healthy attention there, so hopefully I can change his demeanor some with a new home and living conditions.

She is definitely a negative -20 right now. She was a actor on the Princess Diaries or some bullshit? I can't remember her entire sob story, but the first thing she told us was that the cats aren't use to men because she's never had one over. Lol.

oh my gosh, poor kitties.

I hate to rat people out, and this is obviously a mental health issue and she needs help, but I would probably be trying to call someone about this to get more cats out of there - though it does seem like she might be aware she has an issue and is trying if she let you guys take one.

How was the kitty when you got it? If I picked a cat out of a place with tons of cat shit and pee everywhere I would imagine it would at least have an eye infection and a mild respiratory issue. As a kid I haphazardly went into a stranger's house after I saw a handwritten 'Free Kittens' sign posted up in the middle of nowhere(literally I was on fucking horseback with my friend out in bumblefuck nowhere on a school day, thankgod it was just a nice lady), her house wasn't as bad as described but kitty came home with quite a few issues and needed some special eyedrops to get an infection cleared up.

I love my 4 cats but they really have pushed me to the edge. I'm never getting another cat when they're gone. I can take my dog anywhere but those damn cats have to have a trailer to live in or I have to have someone feed them while I'm gone. I'm really tired of the whole litterbox thing too.

Play Russian roulette with them. No I'm sorry that's terrible I dislike cats but every cat and animal kept in captivity has a good life.  Although it's a different story with cats and dogs  because their "wilderness" are the streets, subsequently from the domestication of animals..

Still I wonder if any actual King has had a pet dog :mindblown:

Crazy cat ladies are real man. Not a myth. I've met some on two different occasions, one who was just a beginning crazy cat lady, and another who was much older.

You have to keep in mind that it's the cats themselves that have the control. They use pheromones to lure some people in, and then the chemical combination of cat pheromones and catnip causes the person to be brainwashed, and they become a zombie at the behest of the cat community. They take over the home, play loud music at night and use the cat lady as a food and income source. Quite the scam. Sad really.

Years ago I heard a study done that concluded mice infected with tapeworms were fearless of cats and are basically attracted by the smell of cat urine. Uninfected mice are normally scared to death at the scent of cat urine. Seems to be a way for the tapeworm to propagate by controlling the mouse to get eaten by the cat.

Yes. I've heard similar things about other parasites in fish. fascinating as fuck.

Let's not forget the hazard of toxoplasmosis apparently up to half of the world's population is infected and up to 23% of people in the US have it according to the wikipedia page. It's really only people with weakened immune systems like those going through chemo or who have HIV/AIDs that really experience the severe and possibly deadly symptoms - but you have to wonder about the effect on mental health something like that could cause in someone who is living in a house with 52 cats.

I'm currently doing research on the latest true "King" in history and see if they had domesticated dogs at that time. I'll post back later.

Isn't that some crazy shit.

This video was taken in Papua, Indonesia. We saw it happen five or six times before we finally managed to capture it on video. The horsehair worms infect the prey and modify the brain chemistry in such a way that when the parasite is ready to emerge, the victim commits suicide in water. The worm then emerges, lays eggs in the water, and the circle of life continues. Read the wikipedia article on Nematomorpha for more information.

tapeworm infected "zombie"snails commit suicide by bird.
