I'm surprised nobody has mentioned cholula. It's not that hot but it has awesome flavor.

Cholula is a good choice for tequila shots.  As is sriracha.

Hot sauce is serious business.

"I have no way of knowing whether you, who eventually will read this record, like stories or not. If you do not, no doubt you have turned these pages without attention. I confess that I love them. Indeed, it often seems to me that of all the good things in the world, the only ones humanity can claim for itself are stories and music; the rest, mercy, beauty, sleep, clean water and hot food (as the Ascian would have said) are all the work of the Increate. Thus, stories are small things indeed in the scheme of the universe, but it is hard not to love best what is our own—hard for me, at least."

I love franks. It's barely spicy though, I think of it as more like a flavored salt than a hot sauce lol

So I just tried Frank's with melted butter for chicken.

Total shit.

Ruined my meal but I ate it anyway.

I'm returning that shit.

Unfortunately the selection in stores around me is complete shit so I have to do most of my hot sauce shopping online. I like Frank's Xtra Hot quit a bit when I'm looking for a vinegary sauce that I can buy at the store, but that isn't very often.

Secret Aardvark is one of my all-around favorite sauces for versatile use. It's tex-mex style with a subtle west-indian twist due to the mustard it contains. Very addictive.

FYM Original Recipe is another good, general purpose tex-mex sauce. Unlike Secret Aardvark, it does not contain mustard and the taste is a little more traditional. They also make an Extra Hot which is equally good, just pick your pain level.

Lucky Dog Black Label is my favorite from Lucky Dog, which has a very strong selection of other varieties as well. It's nice and light on vinegar with an extremely well-balanced flavor profile and a good level of heat. The dude who runs the company is also a great guy.

Hotmaple Smokey Habanero is a really good, relatively mild sauce. Slightly smokey with the flavor of caramelized onions, the maple adds a subtle sweetness but it does not taste like maple syrup at all. It's great on barbecue, pork and beans, etc.

Lono Thai & Tomatillo is a delicious, moderately spicy green sauce with a subtle sweetness underpinning the fresh flavors of tangy tomatillos, cilantro, lime, and spicy thai peppers. Goes great on a wide variety of foods. Their Habanero flavor is a little sweet for my tastes but it goes AWESOME with chicken+mango salsa, pork, or barbecue.

Baron West Indian Hot Sauce is a habanero and mustard based sauce that goes fantastic on chicken. If you haven't had West Indian style hot sauce before you should give it a try, habaneros and mustard make a great combination.

Anyway these are the main ones I've been eating at the moment! Hope I didn't forget anything!

Do you like Tobasco, then? I am surprised you strongly dislike Frank's if so, they aren't too far apart to me.

I don't like Louisiana/vinegar heavy hot sauce much myself. I like heat preferably with the taste of the peppers themselves, and in nearly all situations some smoke/roast flavor works well with it for me. Thus New Mexican green chile is my favorite additive. It's either just roasted, peeled, and chopped chiles; or the same in a lard and onion roux.

I really like Jerk sauce and Sriracha too, and enjoy Mexican hot sauces more than LA's. Tomatillo (+chile) sauces both bottled and just ordering "____ verde" are my favorite Mexican substyle.

There's a restaurant chain here "Firehouse" with a crazy selection of many different styles and heat levels of sauces. I rarely get something like that, Subway, Quizno's, but the sauce selection makes it an easy choice when I am getting a deli sandwich.

@PSI
Depending on the restaurant, that might be exactly what you get when ordering buffalo chicken  Or with butter-flavored product, of course.

Sriracha is superior.  Vinegar is for pickles and yeast infections.

No it isn't.  It is an essential ingredient.  And they must be deep fried and not baked.

I've tried none of these but Secret Aardvark...but given how fucking good Secret Aardvark is I might have to check out the rest of these.
