they arent forcing people to conform. the law should be forcing them to conform to religious needs.

in no part of that is there imposing religion on other people. Its just standing up for basic religious freedoms.

it was in fact their goal and it still is if they file a lawsuit or contest their termination

it shouldnt apply to businesses just as freedom of speech doesnt apply, I cannot
go into my place of work and spew hate speech without being terminated but you're
saying a religious group should be able to practice their religion at work without
repercussions

they were using their break time to pray in order to express a basic part of what it means to be muslim.

well yes you are right they are technically trying to force conformity to the law if they go through the courts and if this applies to employers. This is different from imposing religion upon people.

where does liberal fascism come into it? i'm not familiar with canadian law but it seems to be the law, i dont see why employers can break it. are you calling the law liberal fascism?

The problem is that they all wanted to take it at the same time.  That is not a requirement of their religion..

Honestly if your my employee and your on break I don't care what you are doing as long as your not running a child sex slave ring in the employee lounge. Its fucked that they got fired for praying ON THEIR BREAKS.

thats a good point but that doesnt really seem like a big problem. I did not see it in the OP tho so where are you getting that from?

there are specific times from prayer actually but i think they would accept half going at a time or something. It is only 5-10 minutes.

look like the employer went from having prayer rooms and catering to religious beliefs, to banning all prayer. so there seems to be some missing information.

OP said they were negotiating, doesnt look like employer wanted to negotiate because he sacked them during the negotiations. if everyone praying for 5-10 mins at a time was the problem then that can be negotiated.

PS: nice post from Fract. i think the OP was about Canada but point still stands.

About 190 Muslim workers at a meat packing and distribution plant in Fort Morgan, Colorado, have been fired after they walked off their job demanding time to pray.

The dispute at the plant, which is owned by Cargill, began when the plant refused to let the employees leave the assembly line en masse to pray. The company argued that, because of the assembly line process, only one or two employees could leave at once.

Maybe.  I'm kinda biased toward employers myself since I've been one.  Here's the thing about employers.  They do not get paid if nothing gets done.  The employees get paid regardless but the owner gets nothing unless there is production.  Sometimes it is less than nothing.

absolutely, being a boss is not easy. its not easy to be an employee either.

the main questions are..

why did the boss change something he seemed to run well with before?
why was there no avenue for negotiation?

No, the employees wanted to change it.  And they walked off when they didn't get their way.  See ya.  Wouldn't want to be ya.

they didnt get fired for praying on their breaks, they got fired for walking out
on the job and refusing to return, the Council on American-Islamic Relations, a
group with ties to terrorist organizations is claiming that they were fired for
praying on their breaks they were union employees making a decent wage but what
you're really seeing that this wasnt an issue for them before the teamsters
union negotiated their contract but then all of a sudden it became an issue when
they decided they all wanted to pray at once instead of staggering the prayer
breaks as they had originally been doing

why wasnt it an issue when they negotiated the contract with cargill?

there was an avenue for negotiation, that time had lapsed when the union signed
the contracts with the company on the behest of these employees, these employees
didnt feel it was an issue when they collectively bargained that contract, why did
it become one after the contract was signed
