I don't EDC but occasionally I have a Spyderco Atlantic salt I use.  I ground off the serrations and reprofiled it to a straight edge  got mine cheap too.

It is in the salt series. Got it for like $10 brand new condition. Its over $70 on amazon, so that's why I got it. I thought about reprofiling it too, but its my only serrated so I'll keep it so I can have one.

Are OTF knives illegal in all states?


They are legal everywhere as far as I know.  What it comes down to is the blade length though, mine is the full size and I bought mine from a uniformed police officer.  Technically carrying it clipped in my pocket is illegal, but he said if I'm not a dick most cops wouldnt care.  Benchmade gets around all liability by selling it with a case.  Knife laws are dumb though.  I have my ccw, which means I can carry a loaded firearm concealed, but by law I can't conceal a knife over a certain length.

I got lucky and know an ffl that gets good deals on knives and guns so he passes those on.  I got it brand new for $350.  You probably won't find a new one anywhere for under $400, so you're best off just ordering it and paying the shipping,, or if you're lucky finding a place with free online shipping.

they're definitely illegal in CA.


they tried to ban the assisted opening knives too.


it didn't pass but cops can just call it a switch blade and take your knife if they want.

I've had it happen like 3 times.

Im fairly sure OTC spring loaded knives are restricted in canada.
Its just straight up illegal as fuck no way around it.
Its in the same class as butterfly knives and brass knuckles, nobody is allowed to have them no matter the excuse.

Pretty sure they are illegal in most states. I'm in Illinois their definitely illegal along with automatics.
The spring assists are legal because you have to touch the blade to open it.

Yeah the knife laws are retarded.
I heard in NYC if you can open a kknife with one hand its illegal:confused:

The Kershaw Filter has been my EDC for the last 6 months or so. I'm a fan of Kershaw knives, and this one is pretty good. It's stout; the blade is quality steel that takes and holds an edge very well, and it was affordably priced. The locking mechanism is a frame lock rather than the less reliable liner lock, and it is spring assisted. I'm not really a fan of spring assist knives, and the knife itself is a bit on the heavy side so it isn't my favorite, but overall I have been pleased with the purchase.

My absolute favorite EDC was a cheap Chinese made off brand that I carried for years. I wish I could remember what brand it was so I could find another on the interwebs. Unfortunately I lost that one this past spring on a psychedelic journey through the woods.

First choice:
KABAR! Thats my favourite knife company, you can not go wrong with their shit, excellent heavy duty knives. All my favourite knives in my collection are KABAR.

Second choice:
Gerber! I have 4-5 gerbers and love everyone of them. The steel isnt always as good as KABAR but its nothing to complain about. I used my Gerber survival knife for almost 2 years before getting my first KABAR, now I never use the Gerber LOL.

I wouldnt even look at the 3rd one, Id pick one of those ^ which ever one you fancy the most. Both gunna be excellent knives.

The knives you linked are definitely bad ass.  A little bigger then I am looking for though, my links are about 10" vs the 12".

yeah, I'm not a fan.  Now, disclaimer, I haven't had a gerber in years, but they seem like they've sold out.
They had a bear grylls series and that just screams marketing gimmicks.  Companies that that make really high quality products usually don't need to resort to those sorts of things.

the Kabar looks cool.  I guess I'm knida partial to cold steel these days cause they're really solid for the price, and have treated me well.  The owner is a total redneck nut-job, but they sure can make a knife.
