I coulda sworn I read somewhere that taking more than recommended can actually have backwards effects
Could be wrong on that though, but it'd explain it.
I've personally had mixed results from melatonin but overall it's helped. I have found some nights where it seemed to keep me away & or do nothing. I don't take it often though.
Dreams are always unbelievable on it though which is really more of the reason I take it than to actually help me sleep.

It used to work long long ago, I've tried mcg doses and larger doses. Tonight is the most I have ever taken. I figured I'd give it a shot again since it's been forever. It's been 3 hours.

I'm on my phone, in bed. Which I didn't touch until now cause I'm bored/restless and I must distract myself from tinnitus.

From what I've read, melatonin isn't just some magical sleep aid. It only works for very specific circumstances. Melatonin won't do anything for me at all. Melatonin supplements aren't meant to make you sleep, they are to regulate sleep. If you tend to go to bed very late and can't seem to break that habit, but sleep a normal amount of time when you do sleep, then it may work to help regulate you to a more normal schedule.
People like me with full blown insomnia are shit out of luck. My natural sleep pattern is something like stay up 30-36 hours, sleep 2-3 hours, stay up 30-36 hours, sleep 2-3 hours, etc. Give or take (usually give) a few hours of the awake period.
Only thing that puts me on an even somewhat normal sleeping schedule is high doses of medication.

Nothing appeals to me no one feels like me, I’m too busy being calm to disappear. I’m in no shape to be alone contrary to the shit that you might hear. You can't wake up, this is not a dream. Yeah that stuff just gives me wacked out dreams once I manage to fall asleep which reminds me I've had sandra bullock show up in my dreams 2 of the last three nights. I wonder what that's all about..

Yeah, I can never sleep at night, a few hours in the day of shitty sleep, and then often phases of 0-3 hours. Large amounts of Reishi, kava,Valerian, mixed with a few bowls of good weed have worked in the past some. Or xanax and opiates ,but tolerance and abuse. Fuck.
I just remembered I had a dream that some weird unattractive chick was asking to lick my asshole this morning. what

I take 5 mg's melatonin and Valerian root an hour before bed. If I still have trouble I will take up to 3 Benadryl.
High dosing Melatonin (over 5 mg's) will have no more of an effect.

Ive had some great lucid dreaming and been able to easily put my self into a great state of sleep paralysis by combining 7g kratom, 3mg melatonin, 500mg valerian, and 110mg DPH (benedryl). Literally can just close my eyes and am in dream land within a minute or two.

Melatonin only works for sleep if the brain is lacking melatonin. If you are depleted of it, the supplement is useless. Try chamomile, valerian root, and a benadryl.

From your dosage listed, I'm assuming you took 11x3mg tablets. That wont hit you as fast as a capsule. I get 10mg caps from CVS that work better than any tab I've ever taken. They have buy one get one deals all the time and that's the only time I buy. I don't need to get it online considering my local store has them in stock consistently. Probably because I'm the only one who buys that high of a strength. http://www.cvs.com/shop/vitamins/supplements/melatonin/cvs-ultra-strength-melatonin-10-mg-capsules-skuid-728624

Yeah I took 2 capsules and 9 dissolve tabs of 3mg.Yeah it doesn't do shit at any dose for me. Benadryl has always been awful and makes me super irritable and even more restless. All the little herbs have lost effectiveness. I've got to get a shit ton of kava, reishi, kratom, chamomile, valerian and dabs when i have the money. That combo should do the trick, for a little while. Just expensive to keep up because I use a lot.

You can try that new EmergenZZZ it's got melatonin and a bunch of other shit in it to promote sleep. I've used it a few times with good results. When I take the regular pills I honestly just got a headache but it also depends on how tired you are. It isn't like it's ambien.
My friend who does no drugs at all besides drink a lot uses it every night and almost makes it seem like it's the best sleep aide around. shit honestly sucks alone. rather rely on tic tacks then stand alone melatonin lmao.
My best OTC sleep aide is the generic zzquil from the dollar store. They randomly carry the DXM/doxyalamine kind sometimes but recently it's just been fucking the same but with apap. I use benadryl sometimes but it gives me restless legs and weird ass feeling.

I messed around taking everything listed above except the kratom, and I just broke down and saw my doc and I didn't have insurance. I suggested Trazadone because one of the psychiatrists mentioned it in rehab, and except for the nasal congestion it worked like a charm. It was less than $10 a month out of pocket at the pharmacy. All this considering you have insurance or at least a doc who can write you a script that will allow you numerous refills before another appointment. Playing the insomnia game is horrible and it will scramble your brains.

Exhausting physical activity is probably the best thin for a good night of sleep.

This
I would try GHB if you are looking into the realm of drugs to solve your problems
But overall, I think your best bets would be cleaning up your diet, water, caffiene intake, increasing excercise and possibly even yoga/meditation
I used to take 10-20mg of melatonin daily but when I began doing more "healthnut" type stuff my sleep began to correct itself. I dont need drugs to sleep (tho I often enjoy them )

Someone told me once that the less melatonin you take the more of the effect. Sounds weird to me so just take 1 mg and if not just buy velarian or passion flower or something. Or just do some real drugs.
