I'd have to disagree. They might be expensive, overpriced is a matter of opinion. Paperweights is just trolling.

I've been using BSD for 15 years now, I am a die hard fan. With that said, I would never recommend it as a desktop OS, especially for a laptop! It's a server OS and trying to use it on a laptop is a sin as far as I'm concerned. OSX might be based on BSD but is almost nothing the same these days. To say that it is a poorly written rip off is just wrong.

If I needed a laptop os, it would be linux or OSX. I believe they both contend in much of the same space for that purpose.

Hardware? Apple hardware is quality. It may be expensive, but so are almost any other good brands of the same build quality. I don't have a Mac, nor would I buy one any time soon. I wont let that stand in the way of the truth though, they make great products, there's a reason that sysadmins, devs, etc flock to the things. Just my opinion though.

I'd say that sounds like a decent enough deal if your performance expectations are not too high. I have an "Intel Compute Stick" with the same CPU, amount of RAM and OS (but only 32 GB storage.) The "Z" Atom chips are the ultra low power ones geared to tablets and phones and that's a 4-core version. Chokes on HD Netflix but it works fine for downloaded video (x264 mkv and so on.)

The screen resolution is good for that size, a lot of 10" netbooks are just 1024x600. Not sure how accurate the claimed battery life is but 8 hours out of a cheap laptop is pretty killer.

I'm basically just looking to use it for microsoft office, excel, internet, stock quote streaming, and for email. So I imagine the processor will be able to handle all of that and also downloaded video (I rarely stream). I am somewhat nervous because of the only 2 gb of RAM, it being refurbished, and being the Windows 8.1 with Bing 32-bit. I assume i'll be able to upgrade to windows 10 (if not, oh well I can tolerate 8.1). I only plan to use it for about a year and a half; during which I will be doing some traveling so a 2 in 1 has an appeal.

Thanks for your reply tho

I think 8.1 with Bing may not be eligible for the 10 upgrade, never had the tray icon for it come up like on my Win7 machine. I haven't found the 2 GB of RAM too restrictive for light use.

Apparently 8.1 with Bing does upgrade to Windows 10 Home. Not sure why the tray icon doesn't show up for me.
