How do I locate my stolen computer (iMac)
    #21782157 -

Hey guys, I'm not sure if this is the right forum for this topic, but I figured you'd all be tech savvy, so here's my question.
My iMac was stolen tonight along with my housemates laptop ( it's also a mac). We both downloaded the app 'find my iPhone' , her laptop is registered and  we'll get a notification when it goes online. Mine however isn't linked to iCloud, so isn't coming up on the app :frown: bummer.

What other methods could I use to  track down its location when it  goes online? Is there a way to locate its IP address or something?

Unless you have tracking software already enabled, or a remote desktop application you're boned. As for the "Find my iPhone" app, I honestly have no idea. I've never used a mac, but the same concepts to finding stolen computers will still apply.

As for the IP address, it is unique to the network that it will be used on and most often it will be dynamic meaning it constantly changes.

You could always check craigslist for macs being sold and compare the serial numbers to yours, if you have it.

Thank whoever stole your shitty Apple product and be grateful. Now think of it as a blessing and build yourself a PC.

I've never had any problems with my mac and I've had it for five years

As someone else said, Ip address would not be the way to track your computer. If you never registered your computer, you are unfortunately SOL. You don't have any leads on who may have stolen it?

Also, ignore Ganga. I'm no Apple fan, but I'm sure having your shit stolen sucks.

Haha, you sound like my other housemate who's PC didn't get stolen. Thanks I'll consider it, they're way cheaper I guess.

What about the problem of it being a Mac? That's a pretty big issue.

At least it isn't a Dell though.

If you can figure out the MAC address(not to be confused with the brand) you may be able to locate it. You'll have to hire someone for that since I doubt you have the ability to do a scan that large, you're more than likely going to be looking ALL over the fuckin web for a footprint.

It's most likely not worth the headache.
