I Lost $350

So last thursday I got my first big pay check in a long time. And I needed it because I had like $2.70 in my checking account. It was for about $350. I stupidly set it down on the counter of the store I work at. That's the last time I saw it. Now I have to get a stop payment on it, costing me 20 bones, and then wait for a new one to come, which could take like two weeks. But if someone somehow managed to cash it, then I'm out $350. I'll find out on monday if it got cashed. That's two weeks of hard work down the drain. I really hope that check just found its way to the garbage or something.

That sucks. only $350 for two weeks of work? I hope you are like a server and get tips on top of that or you still live with your parents cuz I would like be in a cardboard box if that's i brought home every two weeks.
oh and sorry to hear about you losing that check.

Yeah I just graduated college and I'm working at a retail store for $7.00 an hour until I can find something better. Yes I am living with my parents and have very few expenses. I want to be in my own place by March but the way things are going that may be difficult. I applied for a bartending license, which should come in the mail soon. If I could get a bartending job then I'd have much higher income potential.
But yeah I just keep thinking how much that would suck if someone cashed my check. But that would be hard to do because any bank would ask for identification before cashing a check that big.

I don't think you will have to worry about it getting cashed....banks won't allow it without I.D. BTW, bartending is definitely where it's at. The bartenders at my work make more money then the managers....a shit ton more.

Yep. If you are a bartender at a popular spot, you can make quite a nice living. And it's true there are a lot of places where the bartenders (and often the servers) make more than the managers.
It's probably the highest paying "unskilled" job I can think of offhand. Yeah, yeah... I know you have to take courses and get a license and all that, but the actually "mixology" knowledge is acquired in a very short time with relatively little effort. Memorize a few dozen drinks and that's about it.
The rest is personality and experience.
One thing, though... when you're not drinking yourself, drunks are scary. Makes you think.

I know what you mean. But being sober around drunk people is nothing copmpared to being around drunk people when you're tripping hard on mushrooms or acid. You feel like mouse trapped in a pit of snakes.

No kidding, I remember tripping with a buddy once and hanging out with a bunch of friends on excessive amounts of alcohol and xanax. We just kept looking at each other and commenting that we were the only sober people there and laughing. And I hope everything turns out well for you tomorrow (okay, losing 20 isn't well, but better than losing 350)

Well they stopped payment on the check I lost, which cost me $29. Oh well that's better than losing the whole amount of the check. And then my manger was able to write a voucher for me instead of having to wait a week to have the check sent to me. So yay I have some money now.

Cool KC. Losing 29$ is better than 350. It was also nice of your manager to help you get your money sooner. Glad it worked ot for you.
