Re: Trichocereus Growers Unite! [Re: BigHeart]

Awesome!!  Thanks for taking a look.  I currently have a 300w Full Spectrum LED grow light (you can see red/blue glow above in pics ) that I use to make my dragonfruit cactus happy.  I supplement with natural sun that comes in through the window and two CFLs. (One 150w 2700k and One 100w 6500k).

Will this cactus make T. Pachanoi happy?  I'm going to figure out now what I need to do to rehydrate and plant him.  I'm assuming I plant the bottom part kind of as a stub like I do with dragonfruit.

I received this cactus from Brazil to the midwest USA in 2 days flat via registered USPS mail.  They warned me that they usually don't ship to US because they just throw them away but I said I'll take the risk.

Hi,

I just got this cutting in the mail today.  I was lucky customs didn't confiscate it.  I was said to be from Peru and mailed from Brazil.  Does this look like a T. Pachanoi?  I added some rooting hormone to the bottom.  I just have experience with dragon fruit cactus so I need to learn what I need to do to plant this guy.

Thanks!

Yup, that's a pachanoi.  Looks like it's a little dehydrated already so you might want to get it planted soon.

Awesome!  Thanks!  I have a 300w full spectrum LED grow light (you can see the red/blue in pics above)

Would you consider this a PC Pach?  From everything I've been gathering, I heard it was advantageous to try and obtain a cactus directly from Peru area versus go through a vendor online.

Not sure what you're asking exactly with that question.  Do you mean can the dragonfruit coexist with the pachanoi?  I don't see any reason why not.  As far as rooting your cutting, just stick the bottom end in your preferred well-draining soil mix about 4 inches deep (or more) and with warmth and light it will start rooting, probably pretty quickly too since it's already somewhat dehydrated. As far as your lighting goes, you could try it but if at all possible I highly recommend putting your pachanoi outside if you're past your last frost date because trichocereus need a lot of light to do well.  I learned this the hard way this winter, mine got all etiolated and have nasty bubbly skin near the growth tip also, I'm too embarrassed to even post pictures.

To answer your other question:  no, it's not a PC pachanoi because the very definition of PC (predominant cultivar) refers to a clone (of unknown origins, possibly a hybrid) that has been spread throughout the USA by cuttings.  It's the predominant version of pachanoi in the USA, but no where else so if you got yours from Peru then it's 100% not a PC pachanoi.  This however is no guarantee of potency if that's what you're wondering, but it does skew the odds in your favor.

Can I get an ID on this specimen. I've had it for 2 months and you can see the frostbite scar on the right side that was at the very top of the plant when I received it. I'm not quite sure what it is.

It's grown a good 3" since I put it under a LED UFO 2 months ago. I have it outside in the day and take it in at night. It is still getting down to the 40's at night here. It looks like it rooted and is taking up water.

I told spaceman101 I'd post some pictures so here are some I already uploaded but never posted

Fire ants in a frenzy after I sprayed them with a water hose. They wanted to make a mound that engulfed half the terscheckii :nonono:

I don't think I've posted this bridgesii either. One of the few success stories that started as a tiny 2 inch cutting

Fuck ants  :minigun:

I just recently found out they can cause disease if they hang out in my grow room where I start my seedlings. Forgot the name but it's some bad shit so I'm taking them out atm.

Here's pics of some of my Trichos. I currently live far away from them so haven't seen them much. They've received very little attention for the last 5 months and most seem to be doing well, to my surprise.

Psycho0 X pachanoi

T. peruvianus seed grown

T. peruvianus

HB02

Hybrid Trich seedlings from the US and AU

T. peruvianus crest, originally from the UK. It was BAP'd and you can see the reversion in the picture. I'll cut that off and propagate it next growing season.

Penis plant that started off as a single rooted cutting back in 2009.

T. peruvianus ROSEII #1

Two different species of Trichocereus on one stock. Both are crosses and I can't remember the names right now.

Yeah, no idea why the spine grew like that. It's the reason I included it though!

It's a T. bridgesii Psycho0 X T. pachanoi, unsure of which type.
