todays hunt
    #2150160 -

Today I went hunting in Grant Park, like I always do. Found HUNDREDS of galerinas fruiting, checked on my favorite pan. foensecii patch, and generally look around.

The galerinas, which I had seen before in the park, but only small and scattered, have fruited like all hell. Found a new spot packed with them, many with wavy caps about 4 inches across. In the same spot were a bunch of pan. foenseciis, and a species I haven't IDed.

The pan. foensecii patch got bigger, and the caps all grew significantly. There are easily 500 in the little patch. If only they were subbs....

Now, for the best part. In a spot I check all the time, I was poking around and found.....drum roll please...some P. Cyanescens pinners!!! My first find! No spore print yet, but they looked exactly like the pictures I saw, with a white stem. Towards the top of the stem, where the first layer peeled a little, was blue bruising. I picked just one, because I didn't know what it was at first, and although the stem turned yellow about 20 minutes AFTER picking, there was definitely blue bruising, and the margin of the cap was turning slightly green (yellow margin + blue bruising = green?).

I'll have my camera there with me tomorrow, so I'll have pics then. I'll give the pins another week or so to mature, the I'll grab a couple and print 'em!

These ones are actually a lavender-ish shade and are growing in some old woodchips. I'm not sure about my ID, but it's the closest match.

Here's a cluster of mushrooms I didn't bother to try and ID, but I thought it looked nice:

And here are pics of a possible cyan pin. You can see on the stem where it was split open, leaving a yellow patch. That patch is NOT the color of the stem.

There you go, I hope you can assist in a visual ID of the pin. Also, these pictures do not in any way represent the sheer number of galerinas and pan. foensecii I found.

EDIT: I can't get pics from MSNGroups to show up, so I had to link to the pics. Sorry.

Yup that first one on the cyan pins is what we refer to as a Bow-Tie cyan pinner.

Yeah, I realize that now after looking through the Shroomery posts. But the spore print was jet black...

Whoa!!! Look in the light reflection on the woodchip immediately to the right of the pin in the 1st pic of the cyan!!!

It's a bear!

Yes, the name is very misleading. I personally like to call them "nudie clits", but that's just me.
