Modest Mouse
    #21416220 -

Are there any Modest Mouse fans in the pub? What do you guys think of the new album? I haven't listened to it yet because I was waiting until next week when I'll be eating LSD. I've heard a couple of the songs on youtube and I liked what I heard.

I've only seen them live once and it was a really good show. Isacc, the singer, had a guy behind him tuning guitars the whole time. I think he plays a different guitar or banjo on every song. Or maybe I was just drunk.

Any other new music I should be looking for?

Love modest mouse. Their new stuff is starting to grow on me a bit more. Ive heard 4 new songs by them. They are on spotify, if not youtube.

Built to Spill is coming out with a new album this year and they have released a new song for it. Built to Spill has played as a major influence of MM and i believe they are friends. So its a very cool year for these two bands.

I heard the songs they released early. There where meh. Like most of there other new stuff. There simply just another generic rock band now. Mainstream sellouts. They even plan to release another album straight away though.

I haven't heard any of their albums that were more recent than Good News...

A lot of people really have a hard on for that album, but my favorite was by far The Moon & Antarctica.

Just noticed this thread existed after making mine. I'll delete my thread. Editing this with my opinion in a sec:

Love: Pistol, Sugar Boats, Tortoise

Great: Pups to Dust, God is an Indian, Shit In Your Cut, Ground Walks.

Not for me, but good: Ansel, Coyotes, Ground walks, Lampshades, Wicked Campaign

Forgettable: Opener, Closer, The Best Room

Bad: Be Brave

It's a good Mouse album, they're still experimenting which is a really good sign. They're releasing a follow up album within a year or two which I expect will be top-notch.

good news is there worst album by far. But its also the easiest to listen to for pop fags.

On my previous point ive listened to the rest of the album. Its actually very good. I think they may have put in those singles to keep there silly pop fans happy. Good to see they made some good songs aswell.

Pistol is definitely love it or hate it, but it seems most fans do enjoy it.

I think it's the punch of the album. Possibly the best song on it. Then again I'm one of those weirdos that actually thought This Devils Workday was a kick ass song
But really it is.

@OP how was the live act? I'm seeing them in April @ Buffalo.

Moon and Antarctica is one of my favorite albums ever made. I've been listening to Cowboy Dan, The Good Times, and Little Motel a lot lately. It seems like there last album wasn't really popular with their fans, but I liked it.

That's awesome they're making music again. Hopefully they'll tour more often.

Old Modest Mouse is still the best, IMHO.

Their older stuff is the best absolutely!

However, they have been giving us music for like 20 years.. I don't and wouldn't expect to like all of it. I am just happy they are putting music out for themselves. If they come to town I will for sure go and see them and pray for them to play cowboy Dan.

I hear they do not like playing bigger shows and in fact are quite notorious for randomly playing small venues without announcing. Makes them more of a gem for me.

Yeah they like to keep it intimate.
They're playing at a 1200 person venue when I go.
For them, that's really tight!

You can't go wrong with The Lonesome Crowded West or Building Nothing Out Of Something.

Or this song

It reminded me quite a bit of No One's First, Loph, so I bet you'll really like it  I only wish it ended a little bit stronger, but I have listened to it a few times already. "The Tortoise and the Tourist" will probably stick as one of my favorite MM songs. It's a heavy one.

Have a friend in Portland who has stumbled on a few surprise shows.  I think it's pretty cool, too.

I didn't know about this. I kinda came into the thread just to see how long it would take for someone to mention Built to Spill . One of my favorite bands. I'm glad they're making new stuff!
