Colorado ski resort advice
    #21285061 -

Hey all!

I've been wanting to go snowboarding for quite some time now, and I feel like my spring break(feb 27-mar 11) would be the perfect time. I've done some research but just can't quite figure out where I want to go. Ive kind of decided on sunlight mountain as they have an awesome snowboard program deal, and it just seems like a great place for a beginner. The only problem is that it seems too much of a family place; I'm 20 and would like to be with people my own age.

Basically any idea where would a dude, wanting to learn to shred, have the best time as I have read that places like vail can be elitist and overpriced. But I have no idea as I'm from louisiana. Also apologies for the all-over-the-place post, I'm bad at putting thoughts into words.

Are you going on a budget?  Just to ski?  To party?

Guess my budget would be around 3000 but as everyone else I would like to spend as little as possible. Partying would be nice, really just going to reset myself. If that makes any sense. Going through some personal shit and I feel like taking a trip like this would help tremendously.

Sounds like you can go where ever you want with that budget.  Vail? Aspen?

I'd probably go to telluride, breckenridge, vail or aspen.  But i've never been to any of them, that's just where I would like to go.

Yeah telluride was in the top of my choices. It seemed like an amazing place as well. I feel like I'd enjoy all of them but I just wanna make the right decision ya know? Thank you for the response though! Much appreciated man

All gucci in the cucci man. Really want to go to Colorado for multiple reasons. Mainly because it's relatively close and I'd like to drive.

I don't know where you are at, but Jackson Hole is worth it.  Worth it all the way.  I love that place.

Definitely Keystone.  Vail is more a skier rather than snowboarder resort and Aspen is VERY expensive.  Keystone has a plethora of green runs and Schoolmarm is like a 1.5 miles long green run.  Pretty key for learning once you get past the bunny slope.  Not much pretension about it and nice grooming if you don't get powder.  It also has night skiing so you can go until like 8pm.  My buddies came out here from Florida last winter for Keystone and they got a super dope condo at the resort for a good price.  Honestly, Sunlight looks like garbage and I've never even heard of it.   In that area, Monarch is a better choice.  That said, for vacation, I would choose something in Summit County where the major resorts are.  There will be way more vacationers and way more party.  You can also ride the summit county free bus around the county to wherever you want to go.  Frisco can be fun.  There is literally nothing near Sunlight.

Compare:

Keystone

Monarch

Sunlight

:ilold:  No it isn't dude.  I bought my first board, bindings, boots, and goggles for $70 total.  That combined with a $300 season pass for keystone / a basin and I was good to go.  Nevermind the fact that I've spent a fuck ton on clothing but at least there is cross-over to mountaineering and ice/couloir climbing

Sure.  The Snake River Saloon nearby Keystone is fucking dope for late night.  Look at Copper Mountain too.  I've heard really good things but never been.  My friend is a waitress at some bar up there on the mountain and she says good things.

Yeah.  Definitely bring a pint of fireball for the lift.  I do pretty much every time.   Don't get caught blazing in the open or they will take your pass.

Dude that's 370 and you are not even up to the mountain.  He doesnt have a pass...  Good gear is expensive.    Snowboarding and skiing are not for poor people really

also includes arapahoe basin :highfive:

dude its your spring break, go to arapahoe basin to ride, people will be tailgating, drinking and smoking bowls in the lot...you can just walk up to some people around your age pounding beers an be like "hey can i throw you some money for beer" and theres your alcohol...probably weed too haha, its got a great bunny slope and lesson program and its kinda more of a local vibe.

this vid is from late april when shit really gets into the spring break vibe but if its a weekend and warm out it can get pretty crazy

look for a place around frisco, and buy the pass that lets you go to vail, beaver creek, breck, keystone, and arapahoe basin and then you can decide where you wanna go every morning

thats total BS....go to a second hand shop and you can buy a used board to get you going for like 50 bucks (a friend of mine got one for 25) then boots and bindings for like 100-150 so like 200 bucks for a used setup isnt bad

but then theres the lift tickets...unless you buy a season pass you get fucked for the most part

Yeah, that's a good idea.  A Basin has the best bunny slope of any resort I've seen with an actual lift to the top of it.  Even the greens at A Basin are very steep though.  The ability to go back to your car to booze and eat is phenomenal though via the super close parking lot.
