a few more of my many many pets (pics)
    #2120445 - 11/18/03 06:24 PM (13 years, 23 days ago)

just gotta post one of fred and me

heres our iguana ceaser, he was cuddly when we got him, his owner only fed him romaine lettuce for 3 years and he had no heat scource, he is lucky to have survived.  now that he is healthy with heat lamp, full spectrum lights, and a soft heated bed, he has become aggressive and unmanigable like a healthy male iguana should be at his age. he has grown several inches in the past few months and gained alot of weight.  he gets baths all the time in the tub, also he has a varied and healthy diet with supplements, one time he attacked niggy
chased him all around the house.

now heres my adorable twin brothers Boaz and Jachin

they are black-headed caiques. we paid $600 for both, a really sweet deal, they are over-the top active and expressive,  they hop up and down and poke holes in just about evrything, they crawl all over me when i post at the shroomery, and when i go to bed for a mid-day nap, they come too and wrestle eachother under the covers.

heres boaz (bo)

and jachin (jach, the more dominant one)

and heres a little pic of my Anole waldo

ive had him for about a year.

right, and the white one is Cacatua alba, native to the Mollucan islands of Indonesia. he does best with at least an our of snuggles and cuddles and kisses a day, otherwise he screams and gts irritable.

although he hardly ever bits. like maybe three times in th year ive had him, once when i had to separate him from a very large tree he was climbing, and another time when he was scrapping with the caiques.
maybe once when i first got him too....
he is much more apt to bite his mom who once suffered 2 weeks of his jealosy phase, attacking her like a pit cock wth a 2000 psi beak whenever she walked into his territory, (supermale episode.
now he is just a cuddly, but the caiques bite whenever they want, they usually don't they are more like 3-year old kids, they plot mischeif and get into trouble whenever they can, evrything is a sneaky game to them, one will distract, while the other goes after that one forbidden thing he knows hes not allowed to have.
like my glasses for example.
and i never give any of my animals recreational drugs, because i like to think im not an ignorant retard. like evryone who does, no exceptions. The birds get hemp seed but its nutritionally sound and not active.
ive also got a true albino Axolotl, (ambistoma mexicanum) that im very proud of, took me 10 years to get one, now i have to remove all the fish so they stop nipping him. id get a pic, but hes hiding

hmm, paid, how about golden pheasent? or ptarmagon?
grouses and prairie chcken might also prove interesting, you will need an outdoor hutch tho.
if youre feeling really ambitious, its not particularly difficult or expensive to obtain an ostrich, rhea, or emu. tho youll need lots of space. hell, there were 2 ostriches for sale last month in out local bargain hunter classifieds. i also have a provider that sells me animals cheap (they are a zoo) but the animals (especially birds) are seldom tame, occasionally they redirect abbandonment cases towards us because they really dont want to be putting any more companion birds in a dirty outdoor cage with the mice and gawking yokles all summer. i really reccomend parrots if youre caring, patient, and commited. know yourself

well sort of, the japanese giant salamander is an adult, an axolotl is perpetually a larvae into sexual maturity, this is called neoteny
a healthy axolotl should never metamorphose and should be able to regrow any lost part including tail, gills, appendages and most vital organs.
they are more closely related to tiger salamanders than newts.

there are giant salamanders simmilar to the japanese salamander in the US, particularly in SC and arkansas. they are called "hellbenders" and like in small rocky streams reaching up to 3 feet in legnth.

Yeah, i see snappers all the time. sometimes i see them in my yard, i just pick them up and put them in a large garbage can and take them back down to the swamp.

as far as unusal fowl, try bobwhites or maybe even peafowl, if you got the room. if you want a pair, get 3, two peahens and one peacock.
Emu's are sure to put you near the top of the bragging chain in your community, unless someone beat you to it. Chinese ringneck pheasants are different, as are Indian red junglefowl.

Yeah, I've raised quail before, but Indian red junglefowl is
a great suggestion, I once saw some in a private collection,
but had forgotten them. I'll have to look into them again.
The last Peacocks i raised, jumped the wall and moved into
the woods lol, so their out.
And Chinese ringneck pheasants are all over these parts, as
escapies from shoots.

any pheasent is a good pheasent. especially if you get a mating trio. that way you can have babies before too long. after the babies get to eating size you got room for more babies. I dont know anything about habitat sizes for them though, i always follow the rule, bigger is better.

Yeah agreed, those brown eared pheasants, i was just reminded of as the person i knew who had the jungle fowl, also kept these, they
were quite tame, and able to be let out in the daytime.

I have an incubator as well, so i might wait, and start with eggs.

huy, i like the iguana the best just because im weird and like em alot. It's great of you to have saved it, too many owners don't care enough to do any research on the critters, and stores spread misinformation from the start. heres a random pic of one of mine
:

she doesnt fit on the window sill and so seems a bit out of shape in the pic. silly dumb lizard

pheasants are great. they are pretty birds and i like watching them run around.

i also like blasting them out of the sky. i have about 7 or so in my freezer right now.

quail are also good. i'm eating quail for dinner tonight. tasty.  :crazy2:

ooh, i really like the rhino iguana.
you know it should be mentioned that a male iguana is NOT a good safe pet at all. they can become downright deadly, especially if they arent exposed to other iguanas as they grow. they see humans as rival males, and they attack savagely during breeding season, which in artificial conditions is quite non-specific, the wounds they inflict can be deep and horrible
