Lasers: Incredibly useful....Just fucking cool!
    #2110284 -

I present to you Sam's Laser FAQ! For everything you wanted to know about any kind of laser, including how to build your own.

Because, I mean, who wouldn't want a 100W CO2 laser? At the very least, you could burn shit with it :smirk:

Cool. Apparently I've been there before. Some of the links are couloured.

What kind of laser do they use in a laser etching table?

To etch what, exactly?

There is the type of laser I used to operate.  :smirk:

Cool, they have the N2 laser that I built as a child in there. You can make jello with sodium flourescene dye and pump it with the ultraviolet from the N2 laser. The jello will lase in the visible spectrum... and is edible...

1000W for a laser would be very large. Coherent light has more kick than white light. A 10w CO2 laser (infrared) can shatter a microscope slide in a few seconds. A 10w lightbulb isn't bright enough to read by.

Very cool.  I haven't played with anything in that range.  What were you doing?  Playing with fusion would be my guess...

I used to have four large energy capacitors rated at 50,000 volt, 0.00625 F... lots and lots of joules to play with.   Each cap was about 6 inches in diameter and close to three feet long and weighed in around 20 pounds.  We would charge the bank up and then toss balls of wadded up aluminum foil across the spark gap... BIG BANG... no more foil ball.

These are cutting lasers..The wattage can be adjusted up to around 4000w. Depending on the material, from wood to acrylic, to steel.

Wow, 4000w is a lot of power for a laser. The barcode scanners are in the 1 milliwatt range as an example. A 10w laser is enough to shatter glass, light paper, and burn wood. A 40w argon laser can cut metal.

I used to work with waterjets that did the same thing. We could cut anything from large marble tablets down to foam rubber using water with an abrasive added. We used to have a sign above the lab door, "We compress water". (We were able to compress noncompressable liquids using high explosives. Water does wiggy things when it is shot out of a nozzle at over 3,000 kph..)

Those waterjets are cool. I haven't had the opportunity to run one. Only plasma, oxyfuel and lasers.

Do you know what type of lasers those are?

The ones pictured are 1500w pulsed CO2 (infrared) from the literature I found on the net.

Yes they are co2 pulsed with nitrogen or oxygen assist.

Although not nearly as cool as what you posted, I use a laser tool to help me judge distance for archery.  Very handy when setting up shooting lanes in the forest.  Go Lasers!
