Sound recording software
    #2103553 - 11/13/03 11:09 PM (14 years, 7 months ago)

My friend and I like to record our jam sessions on a karaoke machine. Sometimes we will record drums, then play that back while recording guitar and the drum tape on another tape. that way the guitar and drums are on that tape, then we play that tape and add a bass line. I was playing around with the sound recorder that comes with window xp, but it is pretty limited in its abilities.

now that that is out of the way, i am wondering what software i could get that would do about the same thing as what we do with the karaoke machine? Something i/we could use to record a track at a time and then put them together on one track. Thanks alot.

Get a good sound card like ATI Radeon 9800 Pro or maybe a little lower like the 9600 model.  And start off using software called "Cool Edit"  Its very simple to use and its easy to lay one track down and then another, and if you want you can lay down one measure, copy it and simply loop it

Good luck

Try "soundforge" by sonic foundry, full version can be found on kazaa, it is a GREAT program for recording.

Those are video cards  :smile2:

Pretty much any computer based sound recording will sound better than a karaoke machine.

i just got a new cd player put in my car, so i figured i needed to get our tapes burnt on cd's. we are just going to re-record all our stuff, that way the quality will be better. i think i am going to find cool edit and give it a go. thanks for the help.

Hahaha  Slime R is right... SORRY.  I'm looking into transfering some VHS tapes into DVD   My mind is in the wrong spot.

For sound cards, try - http://www.zzounds.com/prodsearch?q=echo+gina

They're definitely pricy but very nice and versatile.
