Calling on YOU -- Help Gabriel's Miracle get bigger! * 1
    #20926893 -

Guys this thread is not about me. Its about YOU and 42 children. Allow me to explain.

Some months ago I was meditating when I heard the familiar sound of mail falling in my mailbox. I got my mail and among it an unfamiliar envelope.  I opened it and in it was a printed letter by a small charity I sponsor, but also a second one, a hand written letter, festively highlighted with colored markers.

This was that letter:

Just read it.  It started with my real first name so I left that out, this is not about me.

Its a letter by one of the older boys of a group of just 42 children and teens who live in a tiny orphanage in Kenya. They were found some years ago by some people from Holland and Belgium a few years ago who thought "no, were not gonna walk past, we're gonna make this a thing." So they went back home to europe and created charities in the Netherlands and Belgium aimed at helping this tiny orphanage get by. They call it KeBeNe, after Kenya Belgium and the Netherlands.

But I'm telling you and its best I show you, this is their website: KeBeNe.com
They do all these wonderful grassroots things like sell waffles on a local market in Belgium to raise money for the kids.

I was reading Gabriel's letter and was overcome.

This is a charity of just 42 children, and they have so few sponsors that they can let their children write handwritten letters to them, and even worse, they are so low on cash that they need to burden their children with that chore.

But just look at that letter! In the mornings and evenings they all pray together and in those prayers are their benefactors. I have been prayed upon!

This letter became focal point of my sustained meditation.

42 children.

I could not sit by, I felt I had to pay it forward, Gabriel sent me energy and I felt I had to send some back.

Now I am low on cash, I'm certainly not rich. By their measure yes but, not where I live.

I meditated and in doing so looked at my feet. I wore flip-flops at the time.  My mind expanded. So do they most of the time. In Africa flip-flops are not a luxury but a necessity. You can get foot infections, even parasites biting your sole and getting in your bloodstream if you walk barefoot.

Flipflops are a very basic, but important possession, you wear them all day and they protect you in a very real way from sharp things, dirty things and things that bite if you tread on them.

I wrote an email to the charity saying I wanted to donate a pair of flipflops to each of the children. You know, doing something tangible. Not sitting by. What would that cost me? I only had little means after all. I called the email "a small miracle for Gabriel" because after all, a miracle is what they pray for every day and hoped for when writing that handwritten letter.

I got a mail back, they were enthusiastic about my idea. They explained me that they had 42 kids, from toddlers to older teens and that flops could be had for about an euro per pair in Kenya, so, 42 euros ($50)

I was taken aback. A buck for each child basically, for a pair of flipflops for them to wear.

I had to do more, so I topped it off to 100 euros ($125).

Then 5 months passed and this morning I got another letter.

I was told that at the time that I made the donation a tourist had come along and donated second hand flipflops to all the kids, so they wanted to wait with giving mine till they had worn out and give "my" flops to them, the kids being religious, as a christmas gift. She told me she'd send pics of it after the deed was done, and was very wonderful throughout.

Something itched me.

Only days ago I had spent 150 euros on a symbol of God for my altar, which to me was of great significance.  But so was this, quite so.  I knew what I had to do.

I went to my bank and pushed another 150 euros their way, they had asked for E.42 ($50) and now it snowballed to E.250 ($300) which for this expensive month is the best I could do.

But guys..

Guys..

This is the Shroomery. The wonderful, generous Shroomery. And this is the Internet, the place where the smallest things can grow out to affect millions of people, in Gangnam Style.

Guys, Visit their website! They just got a new one. Have a gander and perhaps give some

If you give $4,20, thats 10 cents for every kid.  This is not some anonymous mega charity, this is 42 children and their local staff in Kenya, and volunteers staff in Holland and Belgium.

Please give a little. If you like mark it "Gabriel's Miracle" or any message you like because this really isn't about me, its about YOU and THEM.

Its also about the Shroomery and the Internet.

Lets make this a thing!

Not a gangnam style two billion viewers thing but a small thing for a small charity.

There are buttons on the bottom of this page to bring this to the attention of the social media you are a part of, and you can start pages there yourself for this and ask your friends to share and like them.

Lets make this a thing, you and me, for them!

Maybe you make tie dye t shirts and can spare 42 childrens sizes to give to these wonderful children. Fine, wonderful!  Contact the charity, make your offer.

Tell us in this topic what you'll do.

LET'S MAKE THIS A THING.
YOU, ME, RIGHT NOW.

Not for me, not for you, for them, 42 children in Kenya needing your help badly for now and the future.

If you're wondering, Gabriel is the older boy most to the left in this vid, blue shirt, wearing a towel.

Inappropriate or hurtful/cynical comments will be removed. Lets keep it positive and show those kids the Good we as a Community and we as the Internet are capable of.

I was honestly going to give 50 but a bank transfer from here would eat up close to half of what I'd be offering. Unless there's some better way other than going to my bank..

I've put it before the Admins and up for discussion among the Moderators.

Maybe we could setup a paypal button where we collect it here and then give the combined sum to them, or something to that effect.

I kinda suprised everybody with this, it was a heat of the moment impulse.

Don't give up yet, we;ll see if we can help.

50 bucks would be a LOT, like I said, 42 kids.

We'll work on it.

I decided that when I had my son it would be a tradition in my new family to donate to a worthwhile charity every year. That money is going somewhere useful, no matter what, my good man. I like the sound of this charity though. keep it updated if you figure something out.

Hells yeah! Let's set up a PayPal and help a bunch of kids!  I've had a very enlightening couple of days.  I'm sort of broke but I'll pitch in what I can when that gets set up.

Yo let's make some people happy :psychsplit:

I had swapped this thread out with a new thread featuring a Paypal button and made a test payment. Paypal retaliated by immediately freezing the account like it commonly does for fundraisers so, exit the paypal option, I'm not even going to look back on that one :frown:

but..

:like:Gabriel's Miracle just took to Facebook! :like:

I made a dual language (English/Dutch) Facebook Community page which you can find at:

Please, if you got Facebook go Like this community and Share of it so that it may spread.

Why not just donate money to local kids in need? I honestly don't understand the whole need to send money to people in far away places, who you don't truely know even exist. Chances are a decent amount if not all of your money will not go to the kenyen kids.

BTC, I must say I'm not up to speed with that, maybe a staffer with more insight in the matter can help set something up.

Its frustrating PayPal crapped out on it, it wouldve been great.

Perhaps theres some great impartial international fundraising platform thats just right for this.

By the way I did a bank wire to the other side of the world some time ago and it cost me about $7.50 in bank costs.

7.50 is decent, though im assuming you mean euros. Last time i tried a bank transfer they wanted 20 CAD. i cant remember specifically, it was a while ago but that was to holland. I might have been more.

I gave 50 to a charity today. I cant believe how happy it made me.

Get this figured out and ill throw in the same.
