Stainless steel flowhood table
    #20847381 -

So I found a sheet of stainless steel left over from a job and figured I could make a handy table of it.

It started a week before when I almost started a potentially out of control fire, if it wasn't for a handy fire extinguisher. (note. do not use a metal shot glass as an alcohol lamp. hot metal causes the alcohol to evaporate quickly. Lighting that alcohol steam will ignite a frightening ball of fire) This fire made two small holes in the bottom right of my flow hood, so i was thinking of way of moving my work away from that area. I was able to patch up the holes with silicone, but i still didn't think it a good idea to work directly in front of a weakened spot with silicone hindering my laminar flow.

Stainless steel seemed like a natural option as it is resistant to bacteria. I measured the height of where i burned the filter, and made the table stand slightly above that.

In the first picture you can see how thin stainless steel is, and convenient for my purposes

and in the second picture, a look of the whole deal.

I think its a good size overall, and there is room for storage of a few things below the table afterwards.

I've seen people have tables that are more grate form. Of course i used a sheet instead because it was what i had at hand, but i believe that the thin sheet might even cause for less turbulence. if the laminar flow hit a round grate, it might cause the wind to swirl, but with such a thin sheet, wouldn't it just separate the flow, below and above, but then stay steady and straight?

Mostly i just wanted to share my fire story, hopefully anyone using my terrible technique with think twice. If it wasn't for the extinguisher i would have been in a lot more trouble, and i would be -1 a flowhood.

happy shrooming
