backwards video on TV

Have any of you guys noticed this. I've been noticing little clips in commercials and shows that run in reverse for some time now. It typically is when there is water in the scene. For instance they might cut to a scene of a fountain and if your paying attention you might see that the water is going the wrong way. It is always when there is no other distinguishing feature in the clip. There isn't a person walking or something to indicate that it is reversed. I first noticed it in one of those clips of the water coming off the bow of a ship. the water should spray out and away from the bow but it was being sucked from the air back down and into the bow. If you haven't been around ships maybe you wouldn't realize it was backwards.
So if you have or even if you haven't , why do you think they do this. Is it carelessness on the part of the video editing department? Or do they like to fuck around with tv viewers?
Keep you eyes open and you'll see it sooner or later.
I thought if was strange too that I can't find a mention of this in any searches.
I might think I was just nuts but a friend saw it with me one time.

It's a subliminal advertising technique.
You noticed this but most people don't, so for them a subconscious abnormality is registered in their mind coupled with whatever product is being promoted.

could be partly that but I'm sure I've seen it on things that are not ads. And I'm pretty sure it is not a stroboscopic effect.

I'm confident that is why they do this in commercials.

I've played a lot with backward video over the years. Its a lot of fun and it really fucks with the head of the viewers. The hard part is filming it. I have a shot of my friend walking down the Las Vegas Strip. It looks normal at first until this tourist runs past him going backwards. Then the camera pans over to see the volcano/waterfall in front of the Mirage hotel and casino. The flames are shooting into the volcano and the waterfall is going upwards!
Its a great shot but it was a bitch to film. You have to think of everything in reverse and my buddy had to walk backwards down the Las Vegas Strip on a busy friday night without watching where he was going. But we got the shot and it was all part of a 20 minute video we did entitled "Walk". I think the only person at the Shroomery to see this video was Captain Jack. I sent him a copy of it a couple years ago. And maybe I showed it to oDin and Annie when they were here. Anyway, the point of this rant is that backwards video can be fun!
