Irish Pubs

me and the fellows fancied a drink after a long game of bridge down at the gentlemen's club, we went down to a local watering hole to wet our whistles. The pub was called O'Reagans, and amid the usual clamour, a Cat Stevens cover band was playing.

after downing a few pints (they don't have pitchers at irish pubs) we also noticed as the night went along that we were the only ones tipping. Is it common not to tip in Irish Pubs?

Had I been wasting all my time enjoying the sweet taste of Tennasse bourbon, brownest of the brown liquors? Where was my girlfriend? Where was my car? Who's bed was I lying on? Which state was I in? And I got that sad feeling to make me cry...

its not as common as it would be elsewhere, howd u know other people werent tipping? did you ask around?

yeah we asked the waitress she said usually they get europeans there, you know travelling on buisness affairs, and they spend about a bill or two on drinks and don't tip.

they don't conside it rude in the least, since they don't expect it from the regulars anyway.

What ever you do never set foot in a Irish pub on shrooms or any other drug for that matter.. It's scary as hell..

There's a GREAT difference between tipping in Europe and the US(and Canada?!).

If we eat in a restaurant we do give a tip(not as much as in the US), but if we drink a beer in a pub we don't always give a tip. It's just not normal in Holland to give a tip to everyone.

When I was in the US I knew it was normal to give a higher tip and I did give a higher tip(10-15%, in Holland it's 1-5%). But they always wrote the tip on the bill. IMO it's very rude to write a tip on the bill. They probably did that because they knew we were tourists.

There are some european countries where the tip is automatically added to the bill. I don't think they did that to you just because you're tourists.
