Re: wilt thou suggestest thy beer? [Re: bloodsheen]

Oh, also I tried this last night

For those who absolutely love Pumking, not sure if this will be your thing. It literally tastes like they took pumpking, accept the malt roaster guy fell asleep at the wheel and was like "Fuck, well I ain't throwing this away. Lets just make a stout."

Not that it isn't delicious, but it is more of a porter than an imperial stout. No mouthfeel, not enough coffee/chocolate, etc.

XD I was way too lazy today to even go pick up my paycheck.  Slept until 6pm having the most fucked up dreams and now I'll be up all night, and I have stuff to do tomorrow.

I'm gonna go for a run now though and then maybe get some beer.  That way I'm only like 94.3% fuckup.

Just grabbed 11 new kinds of beer I'll be trying:

Avery Brewing - 'Karma'

Lost Coast - 'Indica'

OK grabbed those two because the art looked cool.

Thirsty Dog - 'Labrador Lager' - gotta support the local Ohio economy

Smuttynose - 'Old Brown Dog Ale' - heard good things about this brown ale

Left Hand - Polestar Pilsner

Stone Ruination IPA - Thought the art for this one was too cliche but heard it's a good IPA so figured I'd give it a shot

Breckenridge - Autumn Ale

Breckenridge - Vanilla Porter

Harpoon - Pumpkin UFO

Southern Tier - Dark Robust Porter

Southern Tier - 'Phin & Matt's'

I've also got a few Abita Purple Haze's in the fridge, I'm not much a fan but my wife likes them.

Deschutes is just all-around awesome as a brewery.  I can't think of any beer of theirs I didn't like.  Their seasonal ales are especially great.

Cool. It's probably gonna take me a while to try them all though. I feel like to be able to give a more honest review I'll just give one or two a try at a time. Finish the night off with some of my homebrew If I must :datass:

I'm about to have a glass of the Polestar Pilsner by Left Hand right now. Not really sure what to expect from it so we'll see. I had their Milk Stout again last night that someone else recommended in this thread. Great both times. First drink of this batch had a mild copper-rust taste but otherwise a solid beer. and I can get past it if it's just the first drink.

You're in TX, right?

Enjoy DMT :toast: Ruination is one of my favorite year-round IPAs, but I base my IPA purchases entirely on freshness. Always buy under a month old and drink within 6 weeks. Ruination gets a three month "Enjoy By" date.

Goose Island Bourbon County series is out in like 2 weeks.
IMO one of the best examples of the art of barrel aging beer.

As of right now, im sipping on some Shorts Kind Ale which is a wet hopped IPA.

I don't think I can pick between what I've had from Bourbon County, Firestone Walker, and Founders. To me, they each seem like they are aiming for a different level of richness, thickness, etc. Bourbon County stuff being incredibly rich. FW intense and complex, but not too rich. Founders by far the most drinkable, not that I didn't find them intense and rich.  The couple Stone's I've tried have been excellent, too.

You are right. All three of those breweries use blending when bottling their Barrel Aged beers. FW actually blends a few different barrels together from different distilleries to make their offerings.

You mean blending beers aged in different barrels, right? I was thinking Founders did that for at least Backwoods, but I could easily be mistaken. Speaking of that one,

 I was fortunate to grab some already, one store released theirs on the same day as Harvest. Hoping to get more on its 11/3 official release. I missed Harvest that day, but speaking of that one..

 Grabbed a case right off the truck yesterday. The other four were gone by the time I checked out

I'm in Ohio, but I think you're asking OP? lol

Yeah everything I got is about as fresh as you can get. I make sure of it too:grin: Every Friday they throw 'pint parties' at the store (local breweries come and give free or discounted pints of beer) and it gets PACKED. Everything flies off the shelf, pretty much whatever they have is just there for those few hours unless it's a bad beer no one wants.

Went with the Stone Ruination IPA tonight - this one is for the true hop heads only. Pours pure gold and has a strong aroma of tangerines. No taste of alcohol like some Double IPAs. very good example of the style.  :toast:
