IF Jupiter were as far away as the moon
    #20440494 -

Does this make anyone else uneasy? I guess I have a bit of Thalassophobia, so I think it's related to that

would it really be that big?. or was it enlarged for dramatization..

i guess it would make me a bit uneasy. planets aren't suppose to be that close to each other and now i know why. claustrophobia.

Yeah, feeling weird. Planets ain't supposed to be so cozy!

Can anyone confirm if the scale is accurate?

Well it lists the radius on the gif.

I'm not even necessarily talking about scale or even the concept. Just the gif freaks me out lol

Pretty sure it would be that big. Jupiter is big as fuck. Just googled it and literally more than a thousand earths could fit in Jupiter.

Two ideas:  I'm not sure how far Jupiter's moons orbit in the first place;  they'd have to have quite some momentum to keep from plowing right into it right?  But the mass is so large, that I guess it wouldn't look like you were flying around it at lightning speeds.

On a slightly unrelated note, all of the planets in our solar system could fit between the Earth and the Moon.

Turns out that one of the four closest moons to Jupiter takes less than a day to orbit.

Considering how massive the planet itself is, that'd be a sight to see.

An Earth day or a Jupiter day? If the latter, then that's crazy.

The tides would likely destroy everything if this were to happen.

You can literally see Jupiter's moons traveling around the planet with binoculars. They visibly change positions hour by hour over the period of a night, they are moving so fast.

The tidal forces on earth would be immense. The oceans would probably rise and fall by thousands of feet every couple hours. The atmosphere, if it could even survive such forces, and not be sucked right of the planet, would bulge so much due to tidal forces, the pressure would be all over the place. Actually none of this would probably happen because the tidal forces would have been so intense, earth's rotation would have stopped completely in relation to Jupiter and one side of the earth would always face Jupiter the same way one side of the moon always faces earth.
