Ran up on this while hiking in the Smoky Mountains. Freaky shit mane.

Me and my two little brothers (16 years old and 24 years old) were hiking the Noland Ridge trail up near Clingmans Dome in the Appalachians (in East Tennessee) last Friday. In the beginning I was blazing down the trail ahead of my brothers not really looking where I was stepping.

Thankfully, my oldest little brother got ahead of me for a little bit once we got about 3 miles in from the trailhead.  All of a sudden he stopped, arms held up to block me from passing him.  "Woah. Stop. Look." was all he said, pointing to the path about 5 feet ahead of us. This is what he was pointing at:



It was a big ass fuckin snake. A Timber Rattlesnake to be precise. Probably about 3 feet long, maybe alittle longer. At first we just stood admiring it, but since it was stretched across the entire path we wanted it to move. So we threw a stick - not right at it, but close, trying to scare it off. It didn't move. So my 16 year old brother threw another right at it. It just turned its head and stared right at us. We didn't intimidate it in the slightest. It didn't even bother rattling its tail. It just looked like it was getting really irritated.

I looked at him and told him he better not throw any more fuckin sticks at that gatdamn snake, and shortly after we turned around to go back up the trail towards our car, not wanting to chance going around it and running across it unseen when we came back that way.  It was 3 miles of a constantly steep climb back to the car, after all, and if one of us got bit there was no phone signal of course, and no way in hell we would be able to RUN back to the car to get help.

We've been going camping/hiking in that area almost every single summer since I was born 25 years ago, and this is the first time I've EVER seen a rattlesnake up there. We've seen plenty of black bears on the trails, but never a rattlesnake. Definitely something I will remember for the rest of my life. If my brother hadn't been ahead of me at that time, I probably would have gotten bit. Thank the lawd for him. :lol:

Sup mane! You changed your username I see, confused me for a second :lol: Been doing pretty good, in the process of cleaning my place up and packing. Going to school for a HVAC associates (heating, ventilation and air conditioning. And refridgeration) in Memphis next month so I'm having to move into the city to prevent an 80 mile round trip every day. You still in the Boro?


Everlong: That would be illegal dood. We don't do illegal things, do we? :hehehe: Snakes don't bother me really.... I'm much more scared of spiders. I still would rather not get bitten by one though. But we were in his mufuckin house, he had more of a right to be there than we did.

Yeah, I changed my username, ha.  Nah, I'm back in my home town.  It's about an hour and 10 minutes from the Boro.  Congrats on starting school.  Maybe we will randomly run in to each other again at some point!

Let me clarify. I'm scared of brown recluse and black widow spiders. Other spiders ain't no thang.

When I was in third grade, a kid in my class was bit on the dick by a brown recluse and was out of school for a month because of it. I've found 3 brown recluse spiders in my house in the last year. They are very common here, and while they don't usually cause the big rotting craters that the internet portrays, I still have a big fear that they will bite my pecker, or be one of the few people it DOES cause a giant crater in.

You can usually SEE snakes and avoid them. Spiders could be hiding under your covers any night and you'll never know it unless you shake your sheets out every single night.

There is no treatment for a recluse bite. You just have to wait it out. There is anti-venom available for snake bites.

This is my fear-logic. :lol:

Yeah I guess you were on public property, but I consider all bets off when found on private property.

I'm not talking about killing all snakes, just evil poisonous ones like rattlesnakes.

It's illegal to kill them in my state without a license. When I was a child, that didn't stop my dad or my friend's parents from murdering rattlesnakes found by any of our houses.

I find copperheads and water moccasins on our property all the time. I've had 3 dogs get bit by copperheads. They all survived with no problem, just had to be on antibiotics for a while so the wounds would heal properly.  I actually just shot and killed this copperhead about a month ago in front of the steps to my porch after my husky ran and lept right over it to get inside. One of the biggest copperheads I've seen.
